Up for sale, a Mojave Plexi 45 Special Edition JTM45-style head and 2x12” cabinet in near-mint condition and in perfect working order, loaded with a full complement of vintage valves including a matched pair of Mullard KT66s. Handcrafted by Victor Mason, this discontinued model was produced in notably small quantities. Quickly garnering a reputation upon its release as an extremely faithful recreation of Marshall’s original, highly coveted 30 watt JTM45 circuit, the amp delivers a bevy of smooth, harmonically-rich tones with both muscular cleans and sizzling overdriven roar. This special edition is one of only a handful produced, with no expense spared when it comes to vintage-accurate componentry.
The Plexi 45 is a two-channel, four-input affair; the point-to-point hand-wired circuit includes Mercury transformers (one Radiospares Special Edition and one custom built specifically for Mojave) and NOS tubes, with a tube complement comprising a matched pair of Mullard KT66 power tubes, a UK-made Sylvania GZ34 rectifier, and a preamp section of three ECC83s. Controls include Presence, Bass, Middle, Treble, Treble Volume and Bass Volume knobs. The Plexi 45 SE features dual outputs, with a rotary 4, 8, 16 Ohms selector knob, Power Dampening knob, and Line Level control with a push/pull Ground Lift and an independent Line Out. Yielding plenty of volume and punch, this pure and dynamic JTM45 circuit really shines when jumpering the two channels for cascading gain and fine-tuned overdrive textures. It's a straightforward, top-tier golden age design. The Power Dampening control is also key to providing necessary attenuation for lower volume scenarios.
The 2x12” open-back cabinet is ruggedly built, loaded with a Celestion G12H 70th Anniversary Special Edition and a Warehouse Guitar Speakers Reaper. The Celestion reissue is rated at 30W, delivering aggressive lows and powerful mids, and the WGS is designed in the same vein with creamy breakup when really pushed.
Cosmetics include black tolex, salt and pepper grillcloth, silver piping, a vintage-style jewel lamp and Mojave badges. Cosmetically, both the head and cabinet are in fantastic shape, with just a scant few faint marks on the tolex. The faceplate graphics are pristine, and all of the original chickenhead knobs are present.
