Up for sale, a Mesa Boogie Nomad 45 combo tube amplifier in exceptional condition and in perfect working order. Hand-built in Petaluma, CA, the Nomad 45 offers six classic modes via three footswitchable channels. The front panel is simple and straight-forward with a no-compromise control layout that repeats three times. Pre-amp voicings are powerful, yet nuanced and richly complex.
Channel One features a gorgeous, well-balanced Clean sound with great bloom and sweetness. More gain can be introduced by switching to "Pushed" for a grittier, edge-of-breakup sound. Channel Two has a wide, round envelope. Notes seem to expand in the air, filling space with a smoky richness, and gain structure spans from almost-clean to silky, liquid sustain. The Vintage/Modern switch doesn’t radically alter the Nomad’s gain, rather it brings the sound more forward or lets it lay back. Channel Three is punchier, brighter, and faster. And once again the Nomad rewards the player with subtle shades of gain at lower settings. One of the favorites is the truly icy blues sound Channel Three delivers. With its Gain set low, it’s so touch-sensitive you can articulate chords cleanly and yet fire off punctuation marks with a stinging fury, just by varying your pick attack.
Make no mistake, cranking up either Lead Channel delivers searing high-gain, but here it's gain with a refined, diplomatic sensibility. The Nomad's gain can talk or sing, purr or sting with its quartet of EL84 power tubes and pair of 12” Celestion Vintage 30 speakers.
Cosmetic wear is limited to light scuffs on the edges of the enclosure, with a small isolated tear in the tolex on the bottom. The grillcloth is tear-free, the graphics are minty, and all of the original knobs are present. The tube set boasts all fresh Electro Harmonix-branded valves, featuring four EL84s and five 12AX7s.
