Up for sale, a circa 2012 Jose Oribe Classic classical guitar in crack-free condition and in perfect working order, complete with the original hardshell case and hangtag. With a career dating back to 1962, master luthier Jose Oribe is one of North America's longest-active veteran classical builders. His Madrid-style instruments are praised for their premium tonewoods and materials, with build quality echoing the work of masters like Ramirez and Contreras.
This particular Oribe has a unique pedigree, as Oribe sold finished soundboards for this model to Asturias Guitar Manufacturing Ltd in Japan (the instrument sans-soundboard is a product of Asturias). Asturias is highly regarded for its classical guitar output, and this model features a 640mm scale length, pairing Oribe's fan-braced cedar top with rosewood back and rims, and a mahogany neck capped with an ebony fingerboard. The body width measures 14 1/2", with a 4" deep lower bout. The instrument delivers the bold, detailed sound of a seasoned cedar soundboard, with trebles that have a nice bounce and pop. The midrange is sweet and textured, and the low strings have a pillowy warmth, clear cut and yielding a smooth bloom as notes sustain This Oribe/Asturias has been professionally setup here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar with comfortable action and fresh normal tension strings.
Neck Specs:
-Wood: Mahogany (ebony reinforcement)
-Shape: C, measuring .845” 1st fret, .965” 9th fret
-Fretboard: Ebony
-Frets: Slender, no wear
-Scale Length: 640mm
-Nut: 50mm, bone
-Tuners: Gold strip, pearloid buttons
Body Specs:
-Wood: Cedar, rosewood
-Bracing: Fan
-Bridge: Rosewood, bone saddle (2 5/16" string spacing)
-Marquetry: Ornate rosette, five-ply purfling, rosewood binding
-Label: Oribe Vista, CA label (referencing soundboard provenance)
While a French Polish finish is purported for most Oribe production, this guitar is finished in lacquer, exhibiting discoloration in the gloss on the rims and bass side of the back in particular. There are scattered dings across the top, and cosmetic wear is otherwise limited to faint scuffing in the clear coat on the back and a few additional minor marks consistent with use. The neck profile retains its smooth gloss, with one shallow mark on the bass-side shoulder behind fret 9.
The original hardshell case and hangtag are included.
