Up for sale, a Jerry Jones Electric Master Sitar in showroom-clean 100% original condition and in perfect working order, complete with the original hardshell case. Handmade in the USA as a high quality alternative to the Danelectro catalog guitars of the 1950s and '60s, Jerry Jones instruments capture the fun and unique tonal character of a vintage Danelectro, with the reliability and expert build quality required by today's professional players.
A studio and stage-worthy modern iteration of Danelectro's Vincent Bell-designed Coral Sitar, the Jerry Jones version mirrors the original tonally and aesthetically in virtually every respect, with a red gator crackle finish over a Masonite and poplar body frame. This hollow design has a distinctive acoustic resonance, particularly beneficial for the drone strings on this model.
Outfitted with a trio of lipstick pickups, each with their own set of dedicated Volume and Tone knobs, this Sitar is a versatile and sweet-sounding model, with the chime and hollow twang associated with the original Lipstick single coil design, and the choked zing of a sitar simulated by the pad beneath the strings forward of the bridge. There's a real roundness and warmth to these pickups too, as well as a percussive clarity that keeps the sound focused and present regardless of the knob settings. The drone strings provide a unique overtone, and the mix of the drone can easily be adjusted to taste. Weighing 7lbs 8oz, this Jerry Jones has been professionally setup here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar with low action and accurate intonation.
The maple neck has a slender, fast-feeling C-shaped profile carve with just enough roundness in the shoulders, faithful in depth and shape to ‘60s Danelectros, measuring .760" deep at the 1st fret and .845" at the 12th. The thick slab rosewood fretboard features a flat 14 1/2" radius, with nigh flawless original jumbo frets which have tons of meat and crown. The nut measures a full 1 11/16" in width, and the scale length is 25", with easy access to the highest frets. The headstock has the six-on-a-side design seen on the Danelectro Coral models of the late '60s, and the Kluson-style tuners manufactured by Gotoh turn very smoothly and hold pitch as they should. The headstock face retains the flawless Jerry Jones waterslide decal.
All of the electronics work as they should, with pairs of Volume and Tone knobs for each lipstick pickup. The wiring harness features untouched solder joints, Mouser pots, and a Switchcraft 1/4" jack. Plastics include the elevated plexi pickguard and armrest, as well as the sextet of barrel knobs. There's barely a scratch on the body, and only a few faint marks on the polished chrome rear control cavity cover. The gloss finish on the neck profile is flawless.
The original black tolex hardshell case with red plush interior is included, along with the tool to tune the drone strings and original pamphlet on that subject.
