Up for sale, a Hudson Electronics Broadcast dual footswitch preamp effects pedal. Hudson Electronics, located in Hutton, East Yorkshire, UK, offers hand-crafted vintage-flavored gain pedals built on strip boards, using new old stock European germanium and silicon transistors and high quality components throughout. Every aspect of each build is completed by hand with high attention to detail, from the application of graphics through to final assembly and testing.
Building on the original Broadcast design, this “dual footswitch” iteration offers the extra flexibility of foot-switchable gain modes and separate level controls, enabling gain stage changes on the fly. The gain mode is selectable between Low or High via the right footswitch, with a green LED indicating when the pedal is in High Gain mode. Each mode has an individual Level control, with internal trimmers that allow fine tuning of the amount of gain.
The Broadcast is a transformer coupled, discrete Class-A germanium pre-amplifier based on the classic broadcast consoles of the 1960s. In the Low-Gain setting, the Broadcast can cover everything from sparkling clean boost to transparent overdrive, all with a healthy dose of volume available to push your amp. The Broadcast features a specially selected Triad steel-core transformer and a Germanium transistor. Advancing the gain on the Broadcast starts to saturate the transformer and the pedal’s discrete circuitry, giving rise to a gentle and dynamic compression coupled with subtle thickening of the midrange. With the gain switch in the High setting and the trim control wound up, the Broadcast delivers heavier distorted sounds with a warm, fuzzy edge. The Broadcast covers a wide range of driven and distorted tones whilst remaining dynamic, responding well to pick attack and the subtle nuances of each player.
