Up for sale, a Hofner H500/1-V62 Vintage ‘62 model in excellent, 100% original condition and in perfect working order, complete with the original form-fit hardshell case and all hangtags and factory paperwork. A more recent example of this model, the H500/1 Vintage ‘62 is a faithful replica of Paul McCartney’s 1962 Hofner Violin Bass, more exacting in its specs than earlier reissue iterations, and boasting vintage-correct touches including strip tuners, a two-piece maple neck, and flathead screws used throughout.A genuine "Made in Germany" example representing Hofner's highest tier of modern production, this Vintage '62 model features traditional tonewood construction with a highly figured flame maple back, flame maple rims, and an arched German spruce top. This fully hollow Hofner has a distinctive acoustic thud and pluck, smooth and sweet sounding via the pair of 511B Staple pickups. The bass has a warm, woody, upright bass-like amplified tone with a pillowy thump. It's an iconic sound, and the Beatles sonic signature is further cemented by a set of 45-100 flatwound strings. Featherweight at just 4lbs 14oz, this Hofner has been professionally setup here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar with easy-playing action and accurate intonation. The maple neck has a substantial, round C-shaped profile carve with generous shoulders in every register, measuring .900” deep at the 1st fret and 1.030” at the 12th. The bound rosewood fretboard features pearloid dot inlay and flawless stock slender fretwire. This bass plays cleanly up the 30” scale with a straight neck and a responsive, optimally-adjusted truss rod. The nut measures an easily-navigable 1 9/16” in width. On the headstock, the Hofner script logo is clean as can be, and the strip tuners turn smoothly and hold pitch as they should, with aged buttons. The back of the headstock retains the “Genuine Hofner Original, Made in Germany” decal. The electronics function flawlessly, with independent Volume controls for each pickup and Rhythm/Solo, Bass On/Off and Treble On/Off switches. The serialized label denoting the Vintage '62 model is also visible in the control cavity. The nickel-plated staple pickup covers and trapeze tailpiece still have plenty of shine. Vintage-accurate plastics include the teacup knobs, pearloid control plate and pickguard. The Sunburst finish is warm and very vintage-correct in its tint and saturation, highlighting the dimensional flame figuring extending across the maple back and sides. There is subtle finish checking across the top, and cosmetic wear is limited to a few minor nicks on the lower bout on top and along the bass side rim, a couple small finish chips on the back binding adjacent to the rear strap button, and a few faint finish scratches in the clear coat on the body as a whole. The smooth gloss finish on the neck profile is flawless. The original form-fit black hardshell case with green felt interior is included, along all original hangtags and factory paperwork.
