Up for sale, a Headstrong Amplifiers Corduroy 1x12” combo amplifier in near-mint condition and in perfect working order, complete with a slip cover. Founded in 2003 and heralded as one of the go-to boutique builders for vintage Fender-style tube amps, Headstrong is the brainchild of Wayne Jones, who personally hand-wires each and every unit himself. The Corduroy is Jones’ take on the classic 20 watt 6G3 Brown Panel Deluxe (1961-63), loaded with a pair of 6V6 power tubes and an Eminence GA-SC64 George Alessandro Signature 12” speaker.

The original 6G3 circuit is prized for its ideal middle ground between the warmth and dynamic range of the Tweed amps that preceded it and the clarity and chime of the Black Panel amps that followed. A dual-channel (Normal, Bright), dual input design, this Corduroy does an exceptional job of faithfully recreating that iconic tone, offering everything from rich and mellow sounds to crisp, crystalline twang at the turn of a knob, and the bias-based Tremolo circuit is deep and throbbing with exceptional dimensionality.

The circuit is 100% hand-wired, and the tube complement comprises a pair of EH 6V6 power tubes, a JJ-branded GZ34 rectifier and a trio of EH-branded preamp tubes. This Corduroy retains the original Eminence GA-SC64 George Alessandro Signature 12” speaker (40 watts, 8 ohms), a ceramic magnet design approved by legendary amp builder George Alessandro, designed for optimal balance with full-yet-tight lows, warm mids, and smooth, open highs.

The cabinet is crafted from finger-jointed pine, with cosmetic touches including brown barrel knobs, brown tolex, wheat grillcloth, and a vintage-style jewel LED. This is a well-kept example: the graphics on the brown faceplate are pristine, and there is sparingly little wear on the tolex.

A padded slip cover is included.
