Up for sale, a Hagstrom HJ-800 hollowbody electric guitar in near mint condition and in perfect working order, complete with the original hardshell case. A modern iteration of Hagstrom's celebrated Jimmy D’Aquisto model that debuted in 1969, this archtop jazz guitar features a solid spruce top, Canadian maple body with a highly figured bookmatched tiger maple back, and pair of Custom 58 alnico magnet humbuckers. The set-neck instrument features the time-tested mortise and tenon joint, a design that most efficiently transfers string energy from neck to body, ensuring a clear and defined natural acoustic response and excellent projection. The guitar delivers sweet, vocal midrange through the alnico humbuckers, with extra sparkle in the bridge position and a rich bell-like warmth to the neck pickup. Lightweight at 6lbs 11oz, this HJ-800 has been professionally setup here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar with roundwound 11-52 strings and comfortable action
The hard maple neck has a slender C shaped profile with good shoulder, measuring .790” deep at the 1st fret and .875” at the 12th. The bound composite Resinator fingerboard has a glassy articulation and immediacy akin to ebony, featuring rounded pearl block inlay and stock medium jumbo fretwire which shows just a hint of wear beneath the plain strings on frets 1-4. The neck is straight, featuring Hagstrom’s patented H-Expander truss rod, a rigid yet lightweight alloy that allows for very low action and a thinner neck profile. The scale length is 25“, and the nut measures 43mm in width, just fractionally wider than 1 11/16". The headstock features multi-ply pearl binding with an inlaid Hagstrom logo and upgraded set of black locking Sperzel tuning machines.
On the body, the stock electronics work as they should, with a three-way pickup selector toggle and individual Volume and Tone controls for each pickup. Hardware includes a floating rosewood bridge and chrome-plated Viking trapeze tailpiece with Hagstrom crest, while a quartet of reflector cap knobs round out the plastics. The top, back, and F holes are framed by cream binding, and the Vintage Sunburst finish highlights the tight bookmatched flame maple figuring on the back. There's barely a scratch on the gloss body finish, and the neck profile is flawless.
The original tweed hardshell case is included.
