Introduced in ‘36, when American was still very much in the throes of the Great Depression, the J-35 was essentially a slightly more affordable version of the Jumbo, which had come out just two years prior. Crafted at Gibson’s Bozeman, MT factory, this premium faithful reissue of the original features a thermally aged Adirondack red spruce top with traditional hand-scalloped Advanced X bracing (hot hide glue construction), mahogany back/sides, Historic neck profile, firestripe pickguard, and VOS Thin Finish Vintage Sunburst nitro lacquer finish.

Effortlessly broad and powerful-sounding, a single strum delivers an incredibly nuanced and rich sound. This J-35 offers a high volume ceiling without distortion, with bass frequencies that yield both clarity and breadth, plus a focused, woody punch. The trebles are crisp and sparkling with plenty of body and a relaxed, sweet sound that’s never strident, and there’s a smooth lower midrange muscle and growl when digging in hard with a flatpick.
