Up for sale, a 1966 Gibson Barney Kessel Regular model in near-mint condition and in perfect working order, complete with the original hardshell case. Introduced in 1961, the Kessel models endured in the Gibson catalog for an impressive 13 years, yet very few were actually produced year to year compared to most of Gibson's other models, with only 149 Kessels leaving the factory in '66.
Tonewoods include a fully hollow maple body, one-piece mahogany neck, and a bound rosewood fingerboard, yielding an acoustically resonant, authoritative response. Preceding the T-Tops, the Patent # humbuckers are balanced and clear in each pickup position, metering at 7.6k ohms in the neck position and 8.2k at the bridge. The direct descendents of the PAF, the Patent # pickups offer a neck position that’s woody and responsive to picking dynamics with dense harmonics, while the bridge pickup has a nice push and growl. This Barney Kessel Regular weighs only 6lbs 11oz, professionally setup here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar with 11-49 strings, low action, and accurate intonation.

The gloss Cherry Sunburst nitro lacquer finish is saturated and vibrant, highlighting subtle birdseye figuring in the maple on the top and back (flame figuring on the rims) and exhibiting vertical lacquer checking. Extremely well-kept, cosmetic wear is limited to a touch of buckle scuffing central to the back and some minor nicks and scratches on the rest of the body. The nitro gloss on the neck profile is clean and smooth, with faint horizontal checking.
The original black hardshell case with gold plush interior is included. The case retains its original latches and handle.
