Up for sale, a 2010 Dr. Z EZG-50 2x10” combo amp in near-mint, 100% original condition and in perfect working order, complete with a padded slip cover. A custom-ordered version with a 2x10 enclosure, this notably rare variant of the EZG-50 is an ideally-sized combo for studio and gigging use. Modeled after the greatest Fender Black Panel amps, this EZG-50 was designed and hand-wired to deliver the “definitive 6L6 clean sound.” It can easily reproduce iconic tones, like SRV’s “El Mocambo” sound; Bakersfield-style twang; and surfy shimmer, accentuated by the all-tube onboard reverb.

The heart of the since-discontinued EZG-50 is the proprietary output transformer, designed for Dr. Z by Ken Fischer of Trainwreck Amps. The output transformer has a very unique impedance that is not used by other American amp makers, perfect for clean tones. Additionally, NOS Allen Bradley carbon comp resistors are used in all the critical tone positions in the EZG-50’s circuit, providing a certain warmth and depth for the sound.

Simple, user-friendly controls including Pre and Post Volume knobs; independent Treble, Mid, and Bass EQ knobs; and Dwell and Mix controls for the all-tube reverb. The Pre Volume control dictates the “loudness” of the amp, and the Post Volume knob is a pre-phase inverter Master Volume. The back panel has 4, 8, and 16 ohm output jacks.

The tube complement includes a pair of Tung-Sol 6L6 power tubes, a preamp complement of two 12AX7s and two NOS 12AT7s, and a 5AR4 rectifier. The cab is loaded with the original pair of Eminence 16 ohm, 70 watt ceramic 10” speakers, made specially for Z.

The cabinet is ruggedly built and covered in black tolex with salt and pepper grillcloth. Cosmetic wear is limited to a scant few marks on the handle and enclosure edges. The faceplate graphics are pristine, and all the original knobs are present.

A padded slip cover is included.
