Up for sale, a Cusack Music Project 34 Selenium Rectifier Pre/Drive in near-mint condition. Appropriately named after selenium’s atomic number, selenium rectifiers are an old technology that dates back to pre-germanium times, first introduced in the early 1930s. Used as rectifiers in ‘50s tube amps including Fender’s Tweed lineup, selenium rectifiers were phased out in the 1960s as the industry turned to modern solid state silicon as a substitute.
Enter Cusack Music founder Jon Cusack. Jon had some 60 year old selenium rectifiers left from his days as an amp repairman, and he always wondered about using them in a pedal. The Project 34 is the kind of pedal that can't be quickly categorized. It can be used for a boost, pre-amp, a bit of a compression, or a light overdrive. But whatever its application, the Project 34 will always be flavored by the unique character of the selenium rectifier.
There are just a few light scratches on the enclosure, and the graphics are pristine. The inside of the baseplate dates to 4/9/24 and is signed by the builder.
