Up for sale, a Carr Amplifiers Lincoln 1x12” combo amplifier in near-mint condition and in perfect working order, complete with the original footswitch and slip cover. Based in Pittsboro, North Carolina, Carr builds meticulous, unique designs with point-to-point construction, premium components, and hand-crafted cabinets.
Although primarily based on a 1964 Vox AC10, the Lincoln is less of an faithful clone than a general homage to classic Vox-ness in general, featuring a single input, dual-channel design and a wide array of tones. Channel 1 offers pristine cleans, with tons of top-end chime, and the Bright switch adds an extra sparkle of glassy brilliance that evokes Vox’s Top Boost combos. Channel Two gets down and dirty, with smooth, creamy overdrive and fantastic upper-midrange breakup, and the Low/High toggle enables a degree of muscle and chunk otherwise unavailable via Vox-style circuits, a feature enhanced by the wide cabinet design. The two channels have independent Reverb controls, and there is a 6/18 watt toggle for increased gain at bedroom-friendly volumes.
The tube complement comprises a pair of EL84s in the power section, with pairs of 12AX7s for each preamp section, and solid state rectification. Carr uses military and NASA-grade power supply componentry, and true point-to-point wiring. The 12”, 65 watt Celestion Creamback is flavored very similarly to a classic Greenback, but with a touch more power and headroom to stand up to the Lincoln’s power and drive capabilities without getting overloaded.
Cosmetic touches on the wide cabinet include black basketweave tolex, wheat grillcloth, white piping, a vintage-style jewel LED, leather handle, and Carr badge. There are only a few faint marks on the enclosure, and the control plate is in great shape, with the full complement of chicken head knobs.
The original footswitch and Carr-branded slip cover are included.
