Up for sale, a B.A. Ferguson Flyweight Shirley in near-mint condition and in perfect working order. Handbuilt by Ramon “Boot” Arreola Jr. in El Paso, Texas, B.A. Ferguson guitars combine quality, responsibly-sourced tonewoods, and rock-ready pickups. The Shirley is Ferguson's most popular model; this specific iteration is fitted with its stock pair of Gemini P-90-sized Goldfoil pickups, finished in satin white nitrocellulose lacquer.

Tonewoods include a two-piece lightweight poplar body, Meranti mahogany neck, and thick slab katalox fretboard. Remarkably light at just 5lbs 15oz, this guitar delivers on the “Flyweight” promise. The airy, lively natural qualities of the instrument are channeled via the Gemini Goldfoil pickups. When played softly, the Geminis are full, balanced and round-sounding with great percussive cut and glassy treble. The pickups really shine when overdriven, producing fat, crunchy chords and sizzling bite. The neck pickup is sweet and bell-like, metering 7.1k ohms, and the bridge has more aggression and twang, metering at 7.9k. This B.A. Ferguson has been professionally setup here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar with 10-46 strings, low action, and accurate intonation.

The Meranti mahogany neck has a very chunky "baseball bat" C-shaped profile carve, with plenty of heft in all registers and lightly rolled fretboard edges, measuring .950” deep at the 1st fret and .999” at the 12th. The thick slab katalox fretboard has a 12” radius with clay dot inlay and flawless medium jumbo Jescar fretwire. This guitar plays cleanly up the 24.625” scale, with a straight neck and a responsive, optimally-adjusted truss rod. The phenolic resin nut measures 43mm (1 11/16”) in width. The headstock features a vertical “Flyweight” graphic, and the Kluson Deluxe double-line tuners turn smoothly and hold accurate pitch. The back of the headstock sports Arreola Jr.’s signature.

On the body, all of the electronics work as intended, with the Gemini pickups wired to the stock harness with untouched solder joints, governed by a three-way pickup selector switch and Master Volume and Tone controls. The Advanced Plating aluminum wraparound bridge is notably clean, compensated to ensure ideal intonation with a plain G string. Plastics comprise the original pair of black reflector cap knobs and the three-ply parchment pickguard, which shows some light scuffing along the strum path. The satin nitro lacquer White finish is practically perfect, and cosmetic wear is limited to one small ding at the treble-side waist. The oil-finished Meranti mahogany neck profile is flawless.

A Coffin-brand padded gigbag is included.
