Up for sale, a 2024 Fender Custom Shop Greg Fessler Masterbuilt ‘69 Stratocaster Journeyman Relic in mint condition, complete with the original hardshell case, CoA, hangtags, and case candy. This Masterbuilt represents the highest tier of Fender’s Custom Shop, and the Masterbuilt models are made by a singular master craftsman, in contrast to other "team built" Custom Shop tiers.
This Custom Shop model faithfully replicates the hallmarks of a late ‘60s Stratocaster, featuring a four-bolt neck plate, large headstock with block logo, Josefina Campos handwound gray bobbin pickups, and “F” tuners. Greg Fessler is Fender’s longest-tenured active master builder, with a career spanning over 35 years and including instruments for the likes of Joe Bonamassa, Jeff Healey, John Mayer, Rhonda Smith, Pete Wentz, and many more. He also worked on and was the sole constructor of Robben Ford’s signature guitars, and eventually became Ford’s personal builder.
Lightweight and well-balanced at 7lbs 7oz, this Masterbuilt Stratocaster features a two-piece alder body and a quartersawn maple vintage-style U-shaped neck with a 9 1/2"-12” compound radius and AAA rosewood fingerboard. The trio of hand-wound Custom Shop ‘69 single coil pickups are wound by Josefina Campos, Fender's most celebrated current pickup winder and the protege of Abigail Ybarra. The trio of pickups offer quintessential Stratocaster tonalities at each position on the five-way pickup selector switch, with a RWRP middle pickup and period-correct construction including gray fiber bobbins, formvar wire, staggered alnico magnets and cloth-covered leads. This Custom Shop Masterbuilt Greg Fessler ‘69 Strat benefits from a professional setup here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar, with 10-46 strings, low action, and accurate intonation.
