Up for sale, a 2023 Tanabe.tv Sunkudo Fuzz in like-new condition, complete with the case and owner’s guide. Tanabe.tv pedals are crafted by hand in Tokyo, Japan by Toshihiko Tanabe, with each pedal made to order using premium components. Tanabe-san has made pedals for noted luminaries including Robben Ford and Larry Carlton.
This Sunkudo’s stunning look is only matched by the quality of its tone, boasting three germanium transistors and an abalone faceplate. The fuzz circuit features a standard three-knob control configuration (the fourth knob dictates the brightness of the LED, with no impact on sound). The Sustain (fuzz) and Volume controls operate typically, but the center detent Tone control is decidedly unique knob: noon is a standard, uncolored response; dialing the knob up from 6-10 boosts the overall signal for absolutely massive, saturated tones; and backing off the knob leads to splatty, unpredictable buzzsaw thinness with a unique percussive character and a reduction in overall output.
The personalized silver foil label on the baseplate is intact, and the interior of the baseplate is signed by Tanabe-san and dated 2023-1-13.
