Up for sale, a 2023 Gruhn Guitars Versitar in like-new condition and in perfect working order, complete with the original heavy-duty gigbag. The man who quite literally wrote the book(s) on vintage American guitars, there are few figures with more knowledge than super-guru George Gruhn when it comes to quality acoustics. Gruhn is also known for his work with Guild and Tacoma, although he was apparently frustrated with the design/production limitations enacted upon him in both of those situations. It’s that frustration that led Gruhn to start his own instrument line, handcrafted in Lebanon, Tennessee, sporting a bevy of expertly engineered features for maximum playability and tonal excellence. The Versitar, Gruhn Guitars’ first offering, features an offset soundhole, LR Baggs HiFi pickup, and premium tonewoods.

This Versitar sports an Adirondack spruce top, East Indian rosewood back and sides, mahogany neck, and East Indian rosewood fingerboard. According to Gruhn, the offset soundhole enables more limited bracing usage, allowing the top to vibrate as freely as possible. As the name would suggest, the Versitar is designed for maximum versatility, retaining exceptional warmth and articulation whether fingerpicked, flatpicked, or strummed. It’s a full, rich tone, with singing, bell-like trebles and an airy breadth in the low end. Additionally, the LR Baggs HiFi undersaddle pickup is very faithful to the natural tone of the instrument, three-dimensional with discreet Volume and Tone wheels on the soundhole edge. This Versitar weighs 4lbs 11oz, professionally setup here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar with 12-53 bronze strings and easy-playing action.
