Up for sale, a 2023 Fender Traditional II 60s Jazzmaster in mint condition and in perfect working order. Ostensibly new and imported direct from Tokyo, this FSR (Factory Special Run) example was made in extremely small quantities for a single dealer in Japan, Kinko Music.
With a Sherwood Green gloss finish, matching peghead and bound rosewood fingerboard, this particular iteration of the Traditional 60s Jazzmaster platform has a few upscale features that set it apart from other Traditional Series offerings. These include a Mustang-style bridge with barrel saddles, an alder body, and medium jumbo fretwire. The current Traditional series Fender Japan models are designed exclusively for the domestic Japanese market, rarely seen outside their country of origin.
A reinvention of Fender Japan's Jazzmaster platform, the new Traditional II 60s model features redesigned Vintage Style pickups, as well as USA-made CTS pots, Switchcraft switches, and USA Fender plastic parts. The instrument has plenty of sparkle and percussive cut on tap, with a range of powerful and defined tones from the two single coil pickups. And engaging the Rhythm Circuit on the guitar's lower body horn yields warmer, wooly sounds. Weighing 7lbs 9oz, the guitar balances well on a strap and has been setup here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar where we specialize in Fender Offset instruments, featuring the factory 10-46 strings, low action, and accurate intonation (string gauge and setup can be dialed in to buyer's preference at no charge upon request).
The maple neck has a fuller profile carve than earlier Fender Japan Jazzmasters, with generous shoulders and lightly rolled fretboard edges, offering a chunky U shape at the nut and just a hair more heft in the higher registers, measuring .880" deep at the 1st fret and .920" at the 12th. The bound rosewood fretboard features pearl dot inlay and flawless slender fretwire, with a modern-spec 9 1/2" fretboard radius. The scale length is a full 25 1/2", and the carved bone nut measures 1 5/8" in width. The Sherwood Green-finished headstock sports a Pre-CBS style "Spaghetti" Jazzmaster logo, with Kluson-style tuning machines which turn smoothly and hold pitch well.
All of the electronics function flawlessly, the chrome hardware shines like new, and the plastic parts are clean as can be, with the original clear protective factory plastic intact on the mint green pickguard. The vibrato unit works smoothly and engages easily for quick warbles and surfy dives, working in concert with the vintage-style bridge. The gloss Sherwood Green finish on the body is like-new, and the gloss on the neck profile is similarly flawless.
This Traditional II '60s Jazzmaster is complete with the original Fender-branded gigbag and hangtags.
