Up for sale, a 2022 Gibson SG Standard '61 Maestro Vibrola in near-mint, 100% original condition and in perfect working order, complete with the original hardshell case and all hangtags. Evoking the look and feel of a 1961 SG Standard (complete with long frame Maestro Vibrola), this modern iteration of the iconic SG platform features 61R/61T PAF-style humbuckers and a gloss nitro lacquer Vintage Cherry finish.
Tonewoods include a mahogany body and one-piece mahogany neck capped by a bound rosewood fretboard. At 7lbs 8oz, this Gibson is lightweight, and acoustically the instrument offers a big barking acoustic sound, very open and present, translating well through the PAF-style 61 humbuckers. These pickups are dynamic and detailed, with a growl and cut in the bridge position, and smooth, harmonically-rich heft at the neck. Professionally setup here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar, this SG has been freshly restrung with 10-46 strings, slinky action and accurate intonation.
The one-piece mahogany neck has Gibson’s Slim Taper slender C-shaped profile carve with round shoulders, measuring .800” deep at the 1st fret and .920” at the 12th. The rosewood fretboard features pearloid trapezoid inlay, with rolled binding edges for added comfort and flawless medium jumbo fretwire. This guitar plays cleanly up the 24 3/4” scale with a straight neck and a responsive, optimally-adjusted truss rod. The nut measures a full 1 11/16” in width. The headstock sports Gibson Deluxe tuning machines with aged keystone buttons.
All of the electronics function as intended, with the 61T/61R humbuckers wired to the stock harness and governed by typical SG controls; a three-way pickup selector switch and dedicated Volume and Tone controls for each humbucker. The nickel plating on the hardware shines like new, including the ABR-1 Tune-o-matic bridge and long frame Maestro "Lyre" Vibrola, which engages smoothly for expressive warbles. Plastics comprise the original quartet of black reflector cap knobs and the multi-ply pickguard which exhibits a few light pick scuffs. This is an exceedingly well-kept guitar, with cosmetic wear on the gloss Vintage Cherry nitro lacquer finish limited to just a few sparingly small finish scuffs and tiny nicks on the body as a whole. The smooth gloss finish on the neck profile is flawless.
The original Gibson-branded brown tolex hardshell case with pink plush interior is included, along with all hangtags and factory paperwork.
