Up for sale, a 2022 Gibson G-Bird in near-mint condition and in perfect working order, complete with the original softshell case. Crafted in Bozeman, MT, as part of Gibson’s Generations collection, this G-Bird is a unique amalgamation of old and new; it combines the classic Hummingbird platform with modern sonic enhancements including the Player Port and L.R. Baggs electronics, sporting a satin nitro lacquer finish.Features include a solid, lightly figured bearclaw Sitka spruce top with scalloped X-bracing, solid walnut back and sides, a utile neck (a mahogany-like timber also known as sipo), and striped ebony fretboard. This G-Bird is both punchy and articulate, with a sparkling, authoritative response and a certain immediacy that lends itself to big, strummed chords and sonorous fingerpicked passages alike. And of course, the square-shouldered dreadnought shape yields rich lows and well-balanced mids/highs, qualities faithfully captured by the L.R. Baggs Element Bronze undersaddle pickup. The Player Port, located on the bass-side rim, is a secondary soundhole with a removable rubber cover. Originally designed in the ‘60s, this feature is unique to the Generations series and serves both to add a new dimension and openness to the sound while also enabling the player to hear more precisely what the audience is hearing. This Gibson weighs 4lbs 9oz, professionally setup here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar with 12-53 bronze roundwound strings, easy-playing action, and accurate intonation. The utile neck has Gibson’s Advanced Response profile, a fast-feeling medium C-shaped carve with just enough shoulder, measuring .840” deep at the 1st fret and .905” at the 12th. The slab striped ebony fretboard has a 12” radius, G-Collection offset bar inlay, and pristine slender fretwire. This guitar plays cleanly up the 24 3/4“ scale with a straight neck and a responsive, optimally-adjusted truss rod, and the nut measures 1.725” in width. The headstock has a walnut truss rod cover, and the Grover Mini Rotomatic tuning machines turn smoothly and hold accurate pitch. The ebony bridge sits flush with the solid Sitka spruce top on all edges, and the compensated saddle has ample room for decades of future adjustment. The L.R. Baggs Bronze Element Bronze undersaddle pickup has a 1/4" endpin jack and a discreet Volume wheel, mounted on bass side soundhole edge. The pickguard has been upgraded to a tortoise example with the traditional Hummingbird shape and graphics. The satin nitro lacquer finish highlights subtle bearclaw figuring in the spruce top and some limited figuring in the walnut on the back as well. Sparingly played since new, there’s scarcely a mark on the body, and the satin neck profile finish is similarly pristine. The original Gibson-branded softshell case is included.
