This streamlined JB-style bass is the second collaboration between EBMM and the Vulfpeck bassist, engineered for funk with a pair of custom wound single coil pickups, a satin-finished flame maple neck, and a select ash body with a Natural Velvet satin finish. The tonewood complement yields a warm, articulate acoustic response with great natural sustain and midrange complexity. The pickups feature Alnico 5 magnets, designed to essentially be a split-coil variant of the original Joe Dart Signature’s humbucker. Dialing up both pickups results in a big, punchy thump. The bridge pickup has more clarity and burp, balanced by the fuller breadth of the neck pickup. Lightweight at 7lbs 11oz, this Joe Dart II has been professionally setup here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar with 45-100 roundwound strings, easy-playing action, and accurate intonation. The flame maple neck has a slender C-shaped profile carve with lightly rolled fretboard edges at the nut, offering additional heft and shoulder in the upper registers, measuring .790” deep at the 1st fret and .935” at the 12th. The fretboard has a 7 1/2“ radius, and the high profile, medium width fretwire is pristine. This bass plays cleanly up the 34” scale with a straight neck and a responsive, optimally-adjusted truss rod, and the compensated nut measures 1 1/2“ in width. The Music Man-branded Schaller BM tuning machines have clover buttons and tapered posts. The pickups are governed by independent Volume controls. A purposeful element of the design is the lack of a tone control, so the overall feel and snappiness of the sound is dictated entirely by the player’s fingertips and picking dynamics. The chrome-plated vintage-style Music Man-branded bridge with steel barrel saddles shine like new. The satin Natural Velvet finish exhibits just one tiny nick on the bass-side edge of the top at the waist. The satin finish on the neck profile is flawless, achieved through a hand-rubbed gunstock oil and “special” wax blend. The original molded hardshell case is included, along with the hangtags and case candy.
