The American Professional II Jazz Bass is the latest iteration of Fender’s iconic upscale bass model. Designed from the ground up to offer an ideal gigging and recording instrument, the bass combines classic aesthetics and tonality with modern features like a contoured neck heel, a satin-finished Slim C neck profile, HiMass string-through/top-loader bridge, and V-Mod II single coil pickups.The V-Mod II single coils were designed by pickup guru Time Shaw, engineered to provide a blend of modern power in tandem with old-school low end. They produce the upper midrange articulation and growl associated with classic JB single coils, with optimal clarity and dynamic range. The alder body provides a balanced platform for the pickups, paired with a maple neck and rosewood slab fingerboard. Weighing 8lbs 14oz and professionally setup here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar, this Jazz Bass is strung with fresh 45-100 roundwound strings, dialed in with low action and accurate intonation.The maple neck has a slender, fast-feeling Slim C-shaped profile carve, measuring .785" deep at the 1st fret and .900" at the 12th. It's a particularly comfortable profile with a silky smooth satin finish and lightly rolled fretboard edges. The fretboard has a modern 9 1/2” radius, and the stock narrow-tall fretwire is pristine. This bass plays cleanly up the 34” scale with a straight neck and a responsible, optimally-adjusted truss rod, and the stock bone nut measures 1 1/2“ in width. On the headstock, the lightweight clover-button tuners have tapered shafts and a modern gear ratio, turning smoothly and holding pitch as they should.All of the electronics function as they should, with flawless chrome plated hardware including Fender's HiMass string-through bridge that can also function as a top-loader. Plastics include the original knobs and the three-ply mint green pickguard, which is a particularly pale shade. The custom color Mystic Surf Green finish has subtle dimensional metallic flake, with barely a scratch on it. The satin finish on the neck profile is equally pristine.The original Fender-branded molded hardshell case with form-fit interior is included, along with the original hangtags and COA.
