Up for sale, a 2021 Ernie Ball Music Man John Petrucci Signature model JP15 in like-new condition and in perfect working order, complete with the original molded hardshell case and hangtags. This Music Man, designed in collaboration with the Dream Theater guitarist, is exceedingly versatile with a vast array of features and an near-endless spectrum of sounds on tap.

The tonewood complement includes an Okoume body, a two-piece flame maple top, and a roasted flame maple neck, with a balanced, articulate acoustic voice that offers a good platform for the myriad electronics. The humbuckers are a pair of DiMarzio Illuminators, also designed in conjunction with Petrucci; they’re bold and rich, with plenty of clarity and presence. Very tight and rhythmically aggressive with heavy overdrive, the Illuminators are "expressive, dynamic, and very liquid” when soloing, according to Dimarzio. The Fishman Powerbridge piezo saddles offer bell-like, acoustic-sounding tones, blended with the magnetic humbuckers. The JP15 also has stereo functionality, active electronics, and four adjustable trim pots on the back of the body to dial in a +20db Mag Boost, Mag/Piezo Mix, Piezo Treble EQ, and Piezo Bass EQ. Weighing 7lbs 15oz, this JP15 has been professionally setup here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar with 9-42 strings, slinky action, and spot-on intonation.

The roasted flame maple neck has a very slender C-shaped profile carve with well-rounded shoulders and lightly rolled fretboard edges, measuring .730” deep at the 1st fret and .790” at the 12th. The 24-fret fretboard sports a 17” radius, and the medium jumbo fretwire is pristine. This guitar plays cleanly up the 25 1/2“ scale with a straight neck and a responsive, optimally-adjusted truss rod, and the compensated nut measures 1 11/16” in width. The headstock face features Petrucci’s signature, and the Schaller M6-IND locking tuning machines turn smoothly and hold accurate pitch, with clean black-plated buttons.

All of the electronics function as intended, with the active electronics powered by a 9V battery easily accessed on the back of the body. Controls include a three-way mag/piezo selector switch on the bass-side horn, a three-way humbucker selector switch, Mag Volume, Mag Tone, and Piezo Volume knobs. Pushing the Mag Volume knob converts it into a Volume control for the Gain Boost, and there’s a push/push coil tap for the humbuckers on the Mag Tone knob. The stereo outputs enable the piezo and the humbuckers to be run out independently or in tandem. The matte black custom floating tremolo actuates smoothly and bounces quickly back to pitch from shimmering warbles and deeper expressions, with a brass block, and the knobs have ridged grips for easy swells and on-the-fly adjustments.

The satin Trans Black Burst finish highlights the wall-to-wall figuring in the two-piece flame maple top, and there’s nary a scratch on the body as a whole. The smooth satin finish on the neck profile is similarly immaculate.

The original molded hardshell case is included, along with the factory hangtags and ephemera.
