Up for sale, a 2021 Ernie Ball Music Man Limited Edition 20th Anniversary John Petrucci Signature JP6 in showroom-clean condition and in perfect working order, complete with the original molded hardshell case, COA, hangtags, and factory paperwork. Celebrating two decades of the partnership between Ernie Ball Music Man and the Dream Theater guitarist, this limited edition JP6 sports a bevy of top-notch features with no corners cut when it comes to componentry and looks, including Petrucci signature DiMarzio pickups, an onboard piezo bridge, active electronics including +20dB boost preamp, and stereo outputs.
Tonewoods include a flame maple top capping a Honduran mahogany body, and a grain-filled mahogany neck topped with an ebony fretboard, resulting in a resonant, detailed acoustic response with glassy articulation. The humbuckers are John Petrucci’s signature DiMarzios; the bridge pickup is a Crunch Lab, featuring a half blade/half hex pole piece design that delivers a big, tight sound that’s neither muddy nor thin and, as the name would imply, takes gain notably well. The neck pickup is a Liquifire, offering exceptional articulation and a flowing, singing solo tone when used with a heavily overdriven amp, and a pristine chord sound when used with a clean amp. Both humbuckers, when used in tandem, can also be split thanks to the push/push coil tap at the Mag Tone knobs. The piezo pickup can be blended into the signal or singled out, offering smooth, natural percussive-sounding tones. There are a wide array of sculpting options and pickup combinations available, including series/parallel configurations, active +20dB boost, and stereo outputs. This Petrucci signature has been professionally setup here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar with fresh strings, low action and accurate intonation.
The grain-filled mahogany neck has a very slender C-shaped profile carve with well-rounded shoulders and a hair more heft in the upper registers, measuring .715” deep at the 1st fret and .785” at the 12th. The 24-fret thick slab ebony fretboard features gold shield inlay and a 15” radius. The high profile, wide (slightly bigger than medium jumbo) frets are flawless, and the guitar plays cleanly up the 25 1/2“ scale with a straight neck and a responsive, optimally-adjusted truss rod. The compensated nut measures 1 11/16” in width, and the headstock sports Petrucci’s signature and Schaller M6-IND black locking tuners which function smoothly.
Electronics include two pickup selector switches; one to select between mag/piezo, mag only, and piezo only, and one to select which of the mag pickups is engaged. There are Master Volume and Tone knobs for the mag pickups, with a Volume knob for the piezo pickup. The coil tap is located on the Mag Tone knob, and the +20dB boost is engaged with a push/push pot on the Mag Volume knob. The JP6 also features stereo outs and is compatible with a stereo 1/4“ cable, and the active electronics are powered by a 9V battery, easily accessed on the back of the body. The trio of knobs have ridged grips for easy adjustments, and the trem cavity cover features Petrucci’s signature and “JP 20th Anniversary” text.
The Honey Butter Burst finish highlights the tight, straight flame figuring in the maple top, with a metallic black finish at the body edges and on the forearm scoop. This guitar has barely a scratch on the body, and the gloss finish on the neck profile is similarly flawless.
The original molded Music Man-branded hardshell case is included, along with the COA, hangtags, case candy, and all factory documentation.
