Up for sale, a 2020 Riggio Custom Guitars Tango in near mint condition and in perfect working order. In a class all his own, Joe Riggio creates some of the most compelling, soulful, and truly inspiring guitars made in this decade or any other. While the T-Style template may initially feel like well trodden territory, Riggio is able to capture that elusive zeitgeist that made the model so compelling and revolutionary in the first place. And of course it's not just one thing, but a bevy of small details that Riggio is able to bring together in a guitar that simply feels "right."
One of Riggio's more modern-styled builds, this Tango's tonewood complement features a roasted ash body, mesquite top with central ebony third, two-piece birdseye maple and mahogany neck, sleb ebony fingerboard, and purple heart headstock overlay. The natural acoustic sound is lively and complex, with the glassy snap of the ebony board, and the guitar is loaded with a pair of custom wound Righteous Sound single coil pickups. Via the four-way pickup selector that pairs the pickups in both series and parallel, the tonal palette is very broad, with commanding bark and chewy twang in the bridge position. Extremely articulate and dynamic sounds in every pickup position, there's a traditional bell-like chime and smoothness in the neck position, and a very rich powerful sound with both pickups engaged in Series. The push/pull coil tap for the bridge pickup can also eliminate half of the coil's windings for a snappier sound. Featherweight at 7lbs, we've had this Tele dialed in here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar with 10-46 strings, low action, and accurate intonation.
The neck profile has a medium C-shaped profile carve with full shoulders and rolled fretboard edges, measuring .840" deep at the 1st fret and .930" at the 12th. The ebony fretboard features a compound 9.5-12" radius with 6105 size fretwire that has the same width as vintage fretwire yet with appreciably more height for greater fretlife and ease when bending. The scale length is 25 1/2", and the nut measures a full 1 11/16" in width. The headstock features Hipshot Grip-Lock locking tuning machines that turn very smoothly.
The roasted ash body has a belly contour for added comfort, with rounded edges on the mesquite top. The Righteous Sound pickups are wired to a four-way switch which operates as follows: Bridge/Bridge+Neck in Parallel/Neck/Bridge+Neck in Series. Hardware includes a Hipshot bridge with compensated brass saddles, and a pair of reflector cap knobs round out the plastics. The nitro lacquer gloss body finish is near mint with just a few exceedingly faint finish marks in the clear coat of the gloss on the body as a whole. The neck profile has an equally clean smooth semi-gloss finish.
A blonde tolex G&G-branded deluxe hardshell case is included.
