Up for sale, a 2020 Gibson Custom Shop Historic 1958/59 Les Paul Standard in excellent condition and in perfect working order, complete with the original hardshell case, hangtags, and CoA. Custom-spec’d for Rainbow Guitars, this Historic series Les Paul is serialized and stamped as an R8, yet has all the features of an R9, with a hand-picked heavily figured flame maple top with a Golden Poppy VOS finish (veering very close to a Green Lemon), a 1959-spec’d neck carve and a pair of Custombucker PAFs, including a rare low wind E-Bucker at the bridge.
Extremely lightweight for a Les Paul at 8lbs 9oz, traditional tonewoods include a mahogany body, two-piece carved flame maple top, and a one-piece mahogany neck capped with a rosewood fingerboard. The pickup pair was selected by Rainbow Guitars for this build (including the lack of a cover on the bridge pickup). The “E” Bucker at the bridge is a rare low-wind iteration of Gibson's highly praised Custombucker PAF, pairing well with the output and tonal properties of the standard Custombucker at the neck. These pickups are dynamic, highly detailed, and balanced, comfortably versatile with any playing style. The bridge pickup has plenty of bite and growl, while the neck pickup has the buttery girth and power one expects without sacrificing detail. This Custom Shop Historic Les Paul Standard has been professionally setup here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar with 10-46 strings, low action, and accurate intonation.

The Golden Poppy VOS nitro lacquer finish highlights the deep figuring in the flame maple top, and this particular burst variant is extremely close to a Green Lemon in its tint and saturation. Cosmetic wear includes a couple notable finish scratches on the back, one finish chip at the bass-side waist on the back, and a few additional minor marks, almost exclusively in the mahogany, while the maple top presets extremely cleanly. The gloss on the neck profile is flawless.
The original Lifton-style hardshell case is included, along with the hangtags and CoA.
