Up for sale, a 2020 Fender Traditional Original '50s Precision Bass in near mint condition and in perfect working order. A rare model made only for the Japanese domestic market, this bass is a faithful reissue of the earliest features of the Precision Bass, with string through body construction and a flat pole black bobbin single coil pickup. This bass offers a resonance and thump which cuts through with a different tonal color and more presence than later split coil P Bass pickups, with the treble articulation accentuated by a fresh set of 45-105 roundwound strings. The bass weighs only 8lbs 12oz, balances well on a strap, and has been professionally setup here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar with comfortable action and accurate intonation.
The one-piece maple neck has a slender C profile carve, yet with full, round shoulders and lightly rolled fretboard edges, measuring .820" deep at the 1st fret and .945" at the 12th. The slender frets are flawless on the gloss-finished 9 1/2" radius fretboard, and the bass plays easily up the 34" scale. The nut measures a full 1 11/16" in width, and the headstock features the smaller pre-1957 "Tele" shape, complete with positively gleaming clover button tuning machines.
The simple electronics function as intended, with the single coil pickup governed by Master Volume and Tone controls with full-size USA-made CTS pots and vintage-spec domed, knurled knobs. The faintly transparent and saturated Butterscotch gloss finish is accented by a single-ply black pickguard, and the instrument is showroom clean and free of wear save for a couple pinhead-sized nicks and a couple exceedingly faint marks in the clear coat on the back lower bout body edge.
A gigbag is included.
