Up for sale, a 2020 Fender Jino Jazz Bass in like-new, 100% original condition and in perfect working order, complete with a tweed hardshell case. This is the signature model of Japanese bassist Kenji “Jino” Hino, a prolific and highly influential figure in the world of contemporary Japanese bass, best known for his solo catalog and session work. This Japanese-made model ranks among the most versatile Jazz Basses ever produced by Fender, featuring an SHS pickup complement, active EQ/Boost controls, and a neck pocket specifically tailored for compatibility with the HiMass bridge, designed to ensure that the string height is ideal for slap playing and precise fingering.
This bass features the classic tonewood complement of an ash body, maple neck, and thick slab rosewood fretboard, and at 9lbs 13oz there’s plenty of natural resonance and sonic heft on tap, creating an ideal platform for the pickup complement. The two ‘70s-style single coil pickups deliver quintessential Jazz Bass burp and midrange grind, with a clear treble register. The centrally located Modern Modified humbucker is big and bold, Music Man StingRay-esque with a complex midrange character and punchy low end. Each pickup has a dedicated Volume knob, maximizing the blending possibilities. A two-band active EQ further cements the Music Man-style qualities of the humbucker, broadening the bass' global tonal palette. This Jino Jazz Bass has been professionally setup here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar with 45-105 roundwound strings, easy-playing action, and spot-on intonation.
The satin-finished maple neck has a “1975 U” profile, a substantial yet effortless-feeling carve, measuring .910” deep at the 1st fret and 1.005” at the 12th. The slab rosewood fretboard features pearloid block inlay, with a 7 1/4“ radius, and the narrow/tall fretwire is pristine. This bass plays cleanly up the 34” scale with a straight neck and a responsive, optimally-adjusted truss rod, and the bone nut measures 1 1/2“ in width. The Seafoam Green-finished peghead sports a ‘70s-style block logo and bullet truss rod nut, outfitted with Pure Vintage ‘70s clover-button tuning machines. The back of the headstock has Jino’s signature, along with the “Made in Japan” text.
The control configuration includes independent Volume controls for each pickup and stacked Bass and Treble Boost knobs for the active electronics (the bridge pickup is not impacted by the Boosts). The neck and middle pickup Volume knobs have push/pull functionality; the former toggles active/passive circuitry, and the middle pickup push/pull solos the humbucker, enabling instant switching between sounds. The chrome-plated hardware is positively gleaming, including the flat-topped knurled knobs, control plate, and Fender-branded HiMass toploader bridge, designed to improve sustain. To compensate for the rugged design and size of the HiMass bridge, the neck pocket has been specifically designed to keep action as low and comfortable as possible.
The gloss Seafoam Green finish (complete with a matching headstock) has barely a mark on it, and the satin neck profile finish is similarly immaculate.
A tweed hardshell case is included.
