Up for sale, a 2020 Fender Made in Japan Hybrid Mustang Bass in near-mint condition and in perfect working order, complete with the original gigbag and hangtags. Combining the short 30” scale of the Mustang bass with a USA-made PJ pickup configuration, satin neck finish, and 9 1/2“ fretboard radius, this versatile bass is an ideal combination for the thump-loving, short scale aficionado.The tonewood complement features an alder body, maple neck, and thick slab rosewood fretboard, and the short scale design results in a certain natural pluck and punch that sits very well in a mix, with a smoothness accentuated by the flatwound strings. The versatile pickup combination can deliver Precision-style thump and roundness, and Jazz Bass-style burp and grind. Engaging the two USA-made pickups in tandem results in a best-of-both-worlds sound, articulate with ample low end heft. This Hybrid Mustang Bass weighs 7lbs 11oz, professionally setup here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar with 45-100 flatwound strings, easy-playing action, and spot-on intonation.The maple neck has a medium U-shaped profile carve with well-rounded shoulders and lightly rolled fretboard edges, measuring .850” deep at the 1st fret and 1.005” at the 12th. The thick slab rosewood fretboard has a modern 9 1/2“ radius, and the medium jumbo fretwire is practically perfect. This bass plays cleanly up the 30” scale with a straight neck and a responsive, optimally-adjusted truss rod, and the bone nut measures 1.515” (38.5mm) in width. The headstock sports a block logo, and the clover-button tuning machines turn smoothly and hold accurate pitch, with clean nickel plating.All of the electronics function as intended, with the PJ pickup pair governed by a three-way selector switch and Master Volume and Tone controls. The chrome-plated hardware all shines like new, including the string-through bridge, barrel saddles, and control plate. Plastics comprise the pair of knobs, switch tip, and three-ply pale mint green pickguard, which still retains the factory protective film.This bass is in fantastic shape, with cosmetic wear on the gloss Black finish limited to a pair of tiny, shallow dings on the back central to the lower bout (too small to effectively photograph). The satin finish on the neck profile is immaculate.The original Fender-branded gigbag is included, along with the hangtags.
