Up for sale, a 2020 Ernie Ball Music Man Axis in near-mint, 100% original condition and in perfect working order, complete with the original molded hardshell case and hangtags. Crafted in the USA at Music Man’s San Luis Obispo, CA, factory, this Axis features a highly figured bookmatched quilted maple top over a lightweight basswood body, a roasted birdseye maple neck capped with a slab rosewood fretboard, and a pair of custom DiMarzio humbuckers.
The natural acoustic response is clear and articulate, and the humbuckers are mounted directly to the body for optimal resonance. Wound specifically for the Axis and not available elsewhere, these zebra-bobbin humbuckers dish out plenty of articulate cut and sweet sustain, with more growl and attitude from the bridge pickup and a thick, round-sounding neck pickup. Weighing 7lbs 3oz, this Axis has been professionally setup here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar with 10-46 strings, low action, and accurate intonation.
The roasted birdseye maple neck has a medium depth asymmetrical profile carve with lightly rolled fretboard edges and ideal heft, featuring more shoulder along the bass side and a more slender treble side, measuring .825” deep at the 1st fret and .945” at the 12th. The slab rosewood fretboard has a 10” radius, and the medium jumbo fretwire is practically perfect, only exhibiting a hint of wear beneath the plain strings on the crowns of frets 1-3. This guitar plays cleanly up the 25 1/2“ scale with a straight neck and a responsive, optimally-adjusted truss rod, and the five-bolt contoured neck joint ensures optimal stability and upper fret accessibility. The locking nut measures 1 5/8“ in width, and the headstock sports a birdseye maple veneer and chrome-plated Schaller tuning machines with pearloid buttons.
Controls include a Master Volume knob and three-way pickup selector for the pair of custom DiMarzio humbuckers. The Floyd Rose-style locking tremolo is fitted with an EVH "D-Tuna" for on-the-fly Drop D tuning.
The gloss Balboa Blue Burst finish highlights deep, dimensional waves of figuring in the quilted maple. Cosmetic wear is limited to a scant few tiny nicks along the lower bout perimeter and a couple faint scratches in the clear coat on the body as a whole. The neck profile is hand-rubbed with a gunstock oil and special wax blend, notably smooth and exhibiting no wear.
The Ernie Ball-branded molded hardshell case is included, along with the hangtags and case candy.
