Up for sale, a 2020 Edwards by ESP Amaze Jiro Bass in near-mint condition and in perfect working order, complete with the original padded gigbag and hangtags. Produced in extremely limited quantities for only two months in 2020, this rare Edwards bass is a recreation of the bass played by “The Earphone Jack Hero,” Jiro, in the popular anime/manga My Hero Academia. It’s a J-style bass with sleek, elongated curves, featuring an eye-catching Purple finish complete with matching headstock.
Tonewoods include an alder body, hard maple neck, and thick slab pau ferro fretboard, yielding a clear, balanced natural acoustic platform for the pair of EJ-1 single coil pickups. These pickups deliver ample punch, burp and grind. The sound can be thick and broad with the Tone knob rolled back to taste, and favoring the bridge pickup delivers more upper-midrange articulation and presence. This Amaze Jiro bass weighs 8lbs 10oz, benefitting from a professional setup here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar with 45-100 roundwound strings, easy-playing action, and spot-on intonation.
The satin-finished hard maple neck has a slender U-shaped profile carve with lightly rolled fretboard edges, measuring .815” deep at the 1st fret and .945” at the 12th. The pau ferro fretboard has a 9 1/2“ radius, and the jumbo fretwire is pristine, playing cleanly up the 34” scale with a straight neck and a responsive, optimally-adjusted truss rod. The nut measures 1 1/2“ in width, carved from bone for optimal clarity and sustain. On the matching headstock, the Gotoh clover-button tuning machines turn smoothly and hold accurate pitch, with gleaming chrome plating. The back of the headstock sports the UA High School logo from My Hero Academia.
All of the electronics function as intended, with the pickup pair wired to the stock harness and governed by a Volume/Volume/Tone control configuration. The chrome-plated hardware shines like new, including the control plate and the ESP Custom toploader bridge. Plastics comprise the trio of knobs and the three-ply white pickguard, which still retains the factory protective film.
The gloss Purple finish is a vibrant hue; this bass is in fantastic condition, with cosmetic wear limited to a scant few faint scratches in the clear coat on the back. The smooth satin finish on the neck profile is immaculate.
The original ESP-branded padded gigbag is included, along with the factory hangtags.
