Up for sale, a 2020 Charvel Guthrie Govan USA Signature in near-mint, 100% original condition and in perfect working order, complete with original hardshell case and hangtags. This Charvel was designed in collaboration with British virtuoso Govan, who dedicated over two years to selecting the ideal combination of player-friendly features and premium, high-performance appointments.
Using Charvel’s San Dimas body shape as a starting point, tonewoods include a caramelized basswood body with a two-piece bookmatched flame maple top and a one-piece caramelized flame maple neck. The Charvel Custom MF humbuckers are big and bold, with great harmonic complexity, tight lows, singing trebles, and authoritative midrange cut. The neck pickup meters at 10k ohms, and the bridge pickup meters at 14.5k. The Custom MF single coil in the middle position delivers sparkle and snap. Additionally, the two-way Single Coil Simulator mini-toggle increases the brightness and shimmer of the humbuckers, effectively putting a filter on just one of the coils to deliver single coil-style sounds while still preventing any unwanted hum or volume loss. It’s a feature taken directly from Govan’s own modded Jazzmaster Select, very useful for playing with high gain, pristine cleans, and toggling between sounds without needing to readjust for volume drops in live settings. Traditional coil splitting is also present at positions 2 and 4 on the five-way blade switch. Featherweight at 6lbs 14oz, this Charvel has been professionally setup here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar with 9-42 strings, low action, and spot-on intonation.
The graphite-reinforced caramelized flame maple neck has Charvel’s “Speed” profile, a slender carve with generous shoulders and rolled fretboard edges, measuring .810” deep at the 1st fret and .865” at the 12th. The fretboard has a 12”-16” compound radius with dot inlay and glow-in-the-dark side dots, and the jumbo fretwire is pristine. This guitar plays cleanly up the 25 1/2“ scale with a straight neck and a responsive, optimally-adjusted truss rod, and the bone nut measures 1 11/16” in width. The headstock sports a Strat shape, licensed by Fender, and the Sperzel locking tuners turn smoothly and hold accurate pitch, with staggered posts for optimal break angle and stability.
All of the electronics function as intended, with the pickups governed by a five-way selector switch, Master Volume and Tone knobs, and the two-way Single Coil Simulator mini-toggle. The USA-made locking tremolo is recessed flush with the body, actuating smoothly and snapping quickly back to pitch from deep divebombs. The Tremol-no unit ensures pitch stability when downtuning or if a string should break. The dome-topped knurled knobs have Luminlay glow-in-the-dark numbers around their base, with clean chrome plating.
The hand-rubbed Natural satin finish highlights the very tight, straight tiger maple figuring across the two-piece top. The only cosmetic wear on this instrument is a small cluster of dings on the bass-side perimeter at the arm contour. Otherwise, the body is exceptionally well-kept, and the satin finish on the neck profile is immaculate, highlighting the equally impressive figuring in the caramelized flame maple.
The original molded hardshell case is included, along with the hangtags.
