Up for sale, a 2019 Sterling by Music Man StingRay RAY34HH bass in near-mint condition and in perfect working order, complete with the original padded gigbag. This sleek, modern iteration of the StingRay platform, finished in Stealth Black, delivers classic Music Man tones with a pair of humbuckers, active EQ, and five-way selector switch for a range of tonalities.Tonewoods include a mahogany body, roasted maple neck, and thick slab rosewood fretboard, and at 10lbs 5oz, this StingRay dishes out ample natural resonance and sonic heft. The pair of humbuckers are big and bold, with a rich low end, punchy midrange and sweet treble grind. The five-way selector switch enables single coil functionality alongside the traditional humbucker tonalities, and the three-band active EQ ensures that it’s easy to dial in the perfect sound for any situation. This StingRay has been professionally setup here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar with 45-100 roundwound strings, easy-playing action, and spot-on intonation. The roasted hard maple neck has a fast-feeling, moderately slender C-shaped profile carve with well-rounded shoulders and lightly rolled fretboard edges, measuring .810” deep at the 1st fret and .890” at the 12th. The thick slab rosewood fretboard has a 9 1/2“ radius, and the stock medium fretwire is practically perfect, with just a faint hint of wear beneath the strings on the crowns of frets 1-3. This bass plays cleanly up the 34” scale with a straight neck and a responsive, optimally-adjusted truss rod, and the nut measures 1.650” (42mm) in width. The headstock sports a “Sterling by Music Man” logo, and the stock clover button tuning machines turn smoothly and hold pitch as they should. The low E string tuner has been upgraded to a Hipshot BT1 Bass Xtender, enabling instantaneous detuning down a full step. The original tuning machine is present in the gigbag. All of the electronics function as intended, with the humbuckers governed by a five way selector switch, Master Volume, and center-detent Bass, Mid, and Treble EQ knobs. The 9V battery powering the active EQ is easily accessed on the back of the body. The black-plated hardware shines like new, including the dome-top knurled knobs and Sterling-designed toploader bridge. The clean three-ply black pickguard rounds out the plastics. The matte Stealth Black finish is sleek and smooth, and this is a notably clean example, with scarcely a mark on the body as a whole. The smooth satin finish on the neck profile is similarly flawless. The original Sterling-branded padded gigbag is included, along with the original E-string tuning machine.
