Up for sale, a 2019 Gretsch USA Masterbuilt Stephen Stern Knotty Pine '55 Roundup G6130-CS in mint condition, complete with the original two-tone Western hardshell case, COA, and all factory paperwork and hangtags. Arguably a more consistently made and expertly crafted guitar than Gretsch's vintage output, this Roundup was made in the USA by Gretsch Masterbuilder Stephen Stern. According to Gretsch:
"The Gretsch Custom Shop is where the time-honored legacy reaches its creative apex. No instruments epitomize the extraordinary expertise and attention to detail of Gretsch’s most trusted hands like Custom Shop instruments. From modern versions of legendary Gretsch instruments to artist tribute models and specially requested one-off guitars, the Gretsch Custom Shop takes “That Great Gretsch Sound” to an entirely new plane, but also preserves and perfects it."
The Roundup G6130-CS model replicates one of the most storied spins on the Duo Jet platform, originally offered by Gretsch from 1953-57. Distinctive Western aesthetic touches include riveted tooled leather banding on the body perimeter, a brass belt buckle welded to the top of the tailpiece, a engraved steer head pickguard, and classic Gretsch cactus, steer head and fence pearl fretboard inlay.
Outfitted with its pair of Seymour Duncan-made DynaSonic single coils, this iconic Gretsch pickup has great power and midrange presence, with the top end twang and articulation that has made this instrument a favorite for Rockabilly and Western Swing. The acoustically chambered mahogany body and hand-selected knotty pine top ensures a warmth, tonal breadth, and clear percussive cut, and the instrument weighs 7lbs 12oz. We've had this Gretsch professionally setup here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar with fresh 12-52 strings with a wound G string, low action, and accurate intonation.
The mahogany neck has a "Fat C" neck profile carve with full shoulders and more heft as you travel up the fretboard, measuring .865" deep at the 1st fret and .985" at the 12th. The bound rosewood fretboard features immaculate slender and tall vintage-style fretwire. The guitar plays effortlessly up the 24.6" scale, and the hand carved bone nut measures 1 11/16" in width. The bound headstock face features a maple veneer, steer head inlay, Gretsch Custom Shop waterslide decal and Stephen Stern signature, and immaculate gold open-gear Gotoh tuners.
All of the electronics work as they should, with knurled gold knobs. The control layout consists of individual Volume knobs for each pickup as well as a Master Tone, with a Master Volume on the treble side cutaway horn and three-way pickup selector switch on the upper bout. Hardware includes a Melita bridge and belt buckle trapeze tailpiece, with a dark transparent tortoise pickguard with steer head graphic rounding out the plastics. The guitar is stunning in its presentation, showroom clean without a scratch on it.
The original Custom Shop two-tone "Western" hardshell case, case candy, all factory paperwork and hangtags, and COA is included.
