Up for sale, a 2019 Gibson Custom Shop Historic J-160E left-handed dreadnought acoustic/electric guitar in excellent, 100% original condition and in perfect working order, complete with the original hardshell case and COA. This premium iteration of the J-160E platform is faithful to early '60s spec, crafted at the Gibson Custom Shop in Bozeman, Montana, featuring a ladder braced spruce top, mahogany back and sides, and a P-90-style pickup mounted between the fretboard and soundhole. The Gibson J-160E covers a wide sonic range; both acoustic and electric, retaining excellent clarity and smoothness across the board. The lows are warm and rich, with crisp, presence-laden highs, offering a tone that is perhaps best described as “Beatle-esque.” When plugged in, the signal is midrange-forward and more electric guitar-sounding than a faithful acoustic approximation, delivering dynamic cleans and pairing very well with a vintage tube amp. This J-160E weighs 4lbs 9oz, professionally setup here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar with 12-52 nickel strings (optimized for electric use), easy-playing action, and accurate intonation. The one-piece mahogany neck has a medium C-shaped profile carve at the nut, with round shoulders in every register and notable heft further up the fretboard, measuring .835” deep at the 1st fret and .975” at the 9th. The dark rosewood fretboard features pearloid trapezoid inlay, with medium jumbo frets which retain their full factory height and have plenty of meat, showing moderate wear beneath the plain strings on frets 1-3, with fainter wear extending to fret 5. This guitar plays cleanly up the 24 3/4” scale with a straight neck and a responsive, optimally-adjusted truss rod. The nut measures 1.720" in width. On the headstock, the Kluson-style tuners turn smoothly and hold accurate pitch, with lightly greened keystone buttons. The rosewood bridge sits flush with the solid spruce top on all edges, and the height adjustable saddle matches vintage spec and has room for adjustment to taste. Plastics include a pair of gold reflector knobs and the dark red tortoise pickguard. This guitar is well-kept, with one very slight and professionally addressed split on the bass-side lower bout edge on the back adjacent to the binding. Cosmetic wear is otherwise limited to light pick scuffing across the strum path and a few very minor marks and faint finish scratches in the clear coat on the body as a whole. A strap button has also been added to the treble side of the neck heel. The gloss finish on the neck profile is flawless. The original hardshell case is included, along with the COA.
