Up for sale, a 2019 Fender Limited Collection Jazz Bass in showroom clean condition and in perfect working order, complete with the original hangtags and hardshell case. Exceedingly rare and representing Fender Japan's flagship product line, the Limited Collection models are released seasonally in particularly small quantities. These basses aren't designed for export, and very few surface even within Japan.
This example hails from the Spring/Summer 2019 collection, with absolutely no corners cut and premium features throughout including a two-piece select alder body, a nitro lacquer Burgundy Mist gloss finish, Fender Custom Shop '60s pickups, USA-made CTS pots, a 9 1/2" fretboard radius, Hi-Mass bridge with string through body construction, a bound rosewood fingerboard with pearloid block inlay, lightweight vintage-style tuners, and USA plastics.
The neck pickup is smooth and broad, and dialing back the Tone control yields a particularly fat, yet detailed sound. The bridge pickup offers a subtle growl and sinewy articulation, with a sweet midrange burp accentuated by the 45-105 roundwound strings currently on the bass. Blending the two pickups delivers many of the most pleasing sounds the bass has to offer, and the two-piece alder body is a resonant and fairly neutral sounding tonewood, allowing exceptional string to string balance and resonance. Weighing 8lbs 7oz, we've had this bass dialed in to perfection here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar with comfortable action and accurate intonation.
The maple neck has a smooth satin finish and slender U neck profile carve at the nut, with modest shoulder and a fast feel as you travel up the fretboard, measuring .800" deep at the 1st fret and .925" at the 12th. The thick slab Indian rosewood fretboard is a dark cut of this particular tonewood, framed by white binding and inlaid with pearloid blocks. The "narrow tall" fretwire is flawless (6105 size), and the guitar plays cleanly up the straight neck with a responsive truss rod. The headstock features lightweight, USA-made Fender tuners with a very smooth response and Fender F-embossed gear housings.
All of the electronics work as they should, with Custom Shop pickups and USA-made CTS pots. The string through body construction ensures optimal resonance, and the hardware features flawless, gleaming chrome plating. The plastic parts are equally clean, with the factory clear protective plastic still intact on the three-ply white pickguard. The nitro lacquer Burgundy Mist gloss finish is applied in the same thin "flash coat" method as Fender's later American Vintage line instruments, and cosmetic wear is limited to a single microscopic finish chip on the treble side edge of the neck pocket. The satin finish on the neck profile is flawless.
The original molded ABS Fender hardshell case is included, along with the original hangtags.
