Up for sale, a 2019 Fender Hybrid '60s Jazzmaster in 100% original condition and in perfect working order. A rare, discontinued FSR (Factory Special Run) model not intended for the USA market and only sold within Japan, this Jazzmaster features a custom color Charcoal Frost gloss finish, complete with the original Fender-branded gigbag.
A reinvention of Fender Japan's Jazzmaster platform, the new Hybrid 60s model features USA-made Fender Jazzmaster V-Mod single coils, as well as USA-made CTS pots, Switchcraft switches, individually height adjustable barrel bridge saddles, and locking Kluson-style tuners. The tonewood complement includes an alder body, maple neck, and thick slab rosewood fretboard. A textbook example of everything we love about the Jazzmaster, the instrument has plenty of twang and sparkle on tap, with a range of powerful and defined tones from the two single coil pickups, and warm, wooly sounds when switched to the Rhythm Circuit on the guitar's lower body horn. Weighing 8lbs 3oz, the guitar balances well on a strap, dialed in here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar where we specialize in Fender Offset instruments, featuring 11-49 strings, low action, and spot-on intonation.
The maple neck has a medium C-shaped profile carve with very full shoulders and lightly rolled fretboard edges, measuring .845" deep at the 1st fret and .935" at the 12th. The dark rosewood fretboard boasts a modern-spec 9 1/2" fretboard radius and flawless medium jumbo fretwire. The scale length is a full 25 1/2", and the nut measures just shy of 1 11/16" in width (42.5mm). The headstock sports a Pre-CBS style "Spaghetti" Jazzmaster logo, with Kluson-style locking tuning machines which turn smoothly and hold pitch well.
All of the electronics function flawlessly, the chrome hardware is bright and clean save for patina across the saddles, and the plastic parts are well-kept. The vibrato unit engages easily for quick warbles and surfy dives, working in concert with the bridge which has individually height adjustable barrel saddles, offering more substance and stability than vintage Jazzmaster saddles.
Cosmetic wear on the Charcoal Frost gloss finish includes a couple dings on top between the vibrato unit and input jack, with additional dings and minor marks largely clustered on the back and on the body perimeter. There are also some prominent finish scratches on the bass-side lower bout on the back. The satin finish on the neck profile presents as more of a gloss, buffed from contact with the palm.
This Hybrid '60s Jazzmaster is complete with the original Fender-branded gigbag.
