Up for sale, a 2019 Fender Custom Shop Stratocaster, comprising a Tomatillo Journeyman Relic body in Super Faded Aged Sonic Blue and a '63 Custom Shop Stratocaster neck. Outfitted with Callaham saddles and Eric Daw custom wound pickups, this Stratocaster was thoughtfully assembled with premium parts throughout. Delivering a lively and chiming natural acoustic quality, the Tomatillo body is a two-piece alder body which provides the foundation for Fender's Custom Shop 1956 Stratocaster model. Via the five-way pickup selector switch, the Eric Daw black bobbin pickups have a distinctive snap and woody quality, with a RWRP middle position that ensures ideal quack and cut in positions 2 and 4 on the switch. The pickups have that classic bouncy Strat quality, and the neck pickup has ideal roundness and detail, perfect for lead work and complex chording. The guitar weighs 7lbs 7oz, professionally setup here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar with 11-50 roundwound strings, low action and accurate intonation.
The Fender Custom Shop '63 Stratocaster neck has an extremely dark and tight-grained AAA Indian rosewood laminated fingerboard, and the slender C profile carve still offers generous shoulder in every register, with hand-rolled fretboard edges for added comfort and notably more chunk as you travel up the fretboard. The profile measures .815" deep at the 1st fret and .950" at the 12th. The fretboard has a modern 9 1/2" radius with practically perfect medium jumbo fretwire, showing just a hint of wear beneath the plain strings on frets 1-2. The guitar plays easily up the 25 1/2" scale length, and the neck is perfectly straight. The nut measures 1 5/8" in width, and the headstock retains its Pre-CBS-style "spaghetti" logo and Fender Custom Shop chevron, with Kluson-style Fender Deluxe single line tuning machines which turn very smoothly.
All of the electronics function flawlessly, with the Eric Daw pickup set wired to a custom harness also wired by Daw, with properly spec'd CTS pots and a five-way Switchcraft switch. The bridge features upgraded Callaham saddles, and the relic'd neck plate is also an aftermarket part. The body features all the factory markings in the pickup cavities and neck pocket noting the '56 Stratocaster base model for the Tomatillo Strat, as well as the "Super Faded Aged Sonic Blue" lacquer notated in the control cavity route. The lacquer is applied in an extra thin "flash coat," and the grain of the alder body peeks through the Sonic Blue, which also has a very light, tasteful Fender factory relic treatment. There's virtually no wear on the body beyond the factory relic, and the neck has a clean, smooth nitro gloss as well with just a couple tiny shallow marks on the profile length.
A Fender Custom Shop black tolex hardshell case is included, along with the COA and build sheet germane to the Tomatillo body.
