Up for sale, a 2019 Collings OM1 Indian acoustic guitar in near mint condition. This particular OM1 is a custom ordered model, blending the features of Collings' OM1 and OM2. Notable differentiating features include solid Indian rosewood back and sides, rope purfling, a torrefied Sitka spruce top, and Adirondack spruce bracing. One of the premier acoustic builders of the modern era, Collings instruments exude quality, passion, and precise craftsmanship in every aspect of their guitars. 'OM' stands for "Orchestra Model," yet 80 years after this body shape was first designed it has become the most popular 14-fret model with fingerstyle guitar soloists who choose to play on steel strings. The compact shape makes the Collings OM equally easy to handle onstage or as an ideal couch strummer, and the relatively shallow body (barely over 4 inches deep) results in balanced tone and an immediate response. The tonewood compliment includes a Sitka spruce top, Indian rosewood back and sides, and an ebony fingerboard and bridge. Collings assures maximum expressiveness and tonal detail by hand-selecting each piece of spruce and carving it to its own unique thickness. The torrefication of the top is a thermochemical treatment of the wood at very high temperatures, carried out under atmospheric pressure and in the absence of oxygen. During the process, water contained in the wood is released, and the biopolymers (cellulose, hemicellulose and lignin) decompose, leaving behind the remaining solid, dry, and much more stable wood material. This process is faithful to the actual aging process a top experiences over many decades, delivering a more expressive, rich tone typically reserved for vintage instruments. Combined with Pre-War scalloped X bracing, the instrument yields a sound that's extremely powerful, lively and detailed, with a lower midrange growl when you dig in hard. The trebles are sparkling and snappy, while the bass register is authoritative and clear with ideal punch and presence. In short, this guitar does what a Collings does, thanks to expertly selected tonewoods, exceptional build quality and adherence to traditional specifications. The neck has Collings' Modified V shaped profile carve, with modest shoulder and a very easy-playing feel, measuring .855" deep at the 1st fret and .950" at the 9th. The ebony fretboard sports a compound 14"-26" radius, with small dot inlay and slender, vintage-style fretwire that is virtually unplayed. The hand-carved bone nut measures 1 11/16" in width, and the string spacing at the bridge is 2 3/16". The scale length is a full 25 1/2". The peghead veneer is a high gloss stained exotic ebony, with the Collings logo cleanly inlaid in mother of pearl. The nickel Waverly tuners have flawless plating and a very smooth 16:1 ratio. On the body, the ebony bridge sits flush with the top, and the bone saddle has ample height. Accents include a small teardrop tortoise pickguard and rope marquetry framed by subtle tortoise binding. An L.R. Baggs Anthem pickup system has also been installed with a 1/4" endpin jack and small Volume/Tone thumbwheels mounted on the inside edge of the soundhole. Cosmetic wear is limited to a few light pick scuffs across the tortoise teardrop guard, and a few exceedingly faint finish scratches in the clear coat of the nitro lacquer gloss. The original hardshell case is included, along with the hand-serialized warranty card and Collings stickers.
