Up for sale, a 2019 Carr Amplifiers Skylark 1x12” combo amplifier in near-mint condition and in perfect working order, complete with the original slip cover. Based in Pittsboro, North Carolina, Carr builds meticulous, unique designs with point-to-point construction, premium components, and hand-crafted cabinets. The Skylark is their take on the finest low-power American tones of the ‘50s and ‘60s.
Instantly recognizable and heard on countless recordings, there’s nothing like the juicy, sweet, and sparkling tone of a classic American-style amp. Rather than a direct clone of a specific amp, the Skylark is designed to capture the overall essence of the finest ‘50s and ‘60s Tweed and Black Panel Fender amps, with a surprisingly wide array of tonalities on tap from pristine, warm cleans to smooth, harmonically-rich overdrive when dialed up. Central to the versatility of the Skylark is the Hi/Low gain switch and an onboard attenuator. A mini toggle engages the attenuator, dropping the amp from its full 12 watts to a variable 0-1.2W knob, for full, vital tones at any volume level. Additional controls include Volume, Treble, Mid and Bass EQ knobs with wide sweeps, and a Presence knobs with an extended range. The onboard tube-driven spring reverb is lush and atmospheric, adding exceptional depth when engaged.
The tube complement comprises a matched pair of Tung-Sol 6V6s in the power section, with solid state rectification, and two 12AX7s and two 12AT7s in the preamp. Carr uses military and NASA-grade power supply componentry (Solen), and true point-to-point wiring with premium components including custom USA-made transformers, USA-made Jupiter signal capacitors, and Analysis Plus speaker cables. The speaker is a Carr Nailhead, custom-built by Eminence and rated at 50 watts, delivering a laid-back midrange, full low end, and smooth trebles resulting in a notably three-dimensional sound. The tube chart is dated to 2019.
The speaker cabinet is made in-house at Carr, crafted from solid dovetailed North Carolina yellow pine, with a floating speaker baffle for optimal resonance. Cosmetic touches include two-tone cream/navy tolex, white piping, wheat grillcloth, leather handle, and a vintage-style jewel LED. There are just a scant few faint marks on the enclosure, and the faceplate has pristine graphics, complete with a full complement of chicken head knobs.
The original slip cover is included.
