Up for sale, a 2018 Fender Aerodyne Jazz Bass in perfect working order with a host of premium upgrades. A "Made in Japan" model, this particular Aerodyne boasts USA-made Seymour Duncan Quarter Pound pickups (original pickups also included), a Hipshot BT2 Xtender Drop D tuner, Hipshot "KickAss" heavy duty bridge, and copper-shielded pickup and control cavities.
While most Fender basses that have the PJ pickup configuration use a Precision-style body, this Aerodyne has the sleek looks and comfortable 1 1/2" nut width of the Jazz Bass, providing both the ample thump and heft of a split coil Precision neck pickup and the midrange cut and articulation of a Jazz pickup at the bridge. The upgraded Seymour Duncan Quarter Pound pickups are hotly wound and feature large 1/4” diameter alnico 5 rod magnets, with the richness and resonance of the bass further enhanced by the Hipshot KickAss bridge. Weighing 8lbs 9oz this bass is well-balanced on a strap, professionally setup here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar with 45-100 roundwound strings and comfortable action.
The maple neck has a slender C profile carve with nicely rounded shoulders and faintly rolled fretboard edges, measuring .820" deep at the 1st fret and .975" at the 12th. The thick slab rosewood fretboard features dot inlay and slender vintage-style frets with their full factory height and well-rounded crowns, showing only very light wear on the crowns of frets 1-4. The bass plays effortlessly up the straight neck with a responsive, optimally adjusted truss rod. Conforming to traditional Jazz Bass specifications, this Aerodyne features a 34" scale length and easily navigable 1 1/2" nut width. The matching Black headstock features three black chrome clover button tuning machines that turn very smoothly and hold pitch well, along with an upgraded Low E Hipshot BT2 Xtender Drop D tuner. The "Made in Japan" text and JD18-prefix serial number are present above the four-bolt neck plate.
All of the electronics function as intended, with individual Volume knobs for each pickup and a Master Tone control capped with black chrome Strat-style knobs. The pickup routes and control cavity have also been professionally shielded with copper tape, ensuring an ideal noise floor. The bridge has been upgraded with a Hipshot KickAss design with heavy duty construction and brass saddles. Cosmetic wear includes tiny nicks on the bass-side lower bout on top, light wear on the treble-side of the pick path, some light scuffing on the back lower bout body edge, and a few faint finish scratches in the clear coat of the gloss. The neck profile retains a smooth satin finish.
The original pickup pair is included, along with a padded gigbag.
