Up for sale, a 2017 Gretsch Vintage Select ‘53 Duo Jet model G6128T-53 in near-mint, 100% original condition and in perfect working order, complete with the original hardshell case, hangtags, and CoA. This Gretsch is an extremely faithful recreation of the Duo Jet's first-year feature set, boasting a Bigsby B3CCB vibrato, TV Jones T-Armond pickups, a U-shaped mahogany neck with block inlay, a pinned rosewood bridge base with a compensated aluminum saddle, and period-correct aesthetic touches including the plain white pickguard and script headstock inlay.
Tonewoods include an arched maple top, chambered mahogany, mahogany neck and bound rosewood fingerboard, offering a resonant, barking natural acoustic quality. The TV Jones T-Armond pickups are TV Jones’ take on the DeArmond DynaSonic alnico magnet single coils fitted in pre-1957 Gretsch guitars. These pickups sing with unmatched fidelity and clarity in lower gain settings, while offering fat, aggressive twang and sizzling cut when overdriven. The lows are spongy and warm, the trebles are sweet and singing, with plenty of chewy twang in the bridge position, and the midrange has great harmonic complexity. This Gretsch weighs 6lbs 15oz, professionally setup here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar with 11-49 roundwound strings, low action, and accurate intonation.
The mahogany neck has a medium U-shaped profile carve with generous shoulders and ideal heft in every register, measuring .835” deep at the 1st fret and .955” at the 12th. The bound rosewood fretboard is a dark cut with aged pearloid block inlay, and the slender fretwire has its factory height with well-rounded crowns, only exhibiting light wear beneath the plain strings on the crowns of frets 1-5. This guitar plays cleanly up the 24.6” scale with a straight neck and a responsive, optimally-adjusted truss rod, and the bone nut measures 1 11/16” in width. The bound headstock sports a script Gretsch logo, and the Grover Sta-Tite die-cast open gear tuning machines function reliably
The TV Jones T-Armond pickups are governed by a three-way pickup switch, individual Volume knobs, a Master Tone, and a Master Volume knob on the cutaway. The wiring harness has period-accurate Treble Bleed circuitry, featuring Squeezebox paper-in-oil capacitors. The nickel-plated barrel knobs are the pre-arrow variety consistent with '53 spec, and the Bigsby B3CCB vibrato works in tandem with the compensated aluminum saddle (with pinned rosewood base), actuating smoothly and bouncing reliably back to pitch.
The gloss Black finish on the arched maple top is framed by multi-ply cream binding; this is a notably well-kept example, with cosmetic wear limited to a few faint finish scratches in the clear coat on the body as a whole. The smooth gloss on the neck profile is immaculate.
The original black tolex hardshell case is included, along with all hangtags and the CoA.
