Up for sale, a 2017 Fender Traditional ‘70s Mustang in near-mint, 100% original condition and in perfect working order, complete with the original gigbag and hangtags. This Traditional Series Fender Japan model was designed exclusively for the Japanese domestic market, uncommon outside of its country of origin and sporting a custom color Sapphire Blue Trans finish.

Effectively capturing the finer points of a classic Mustang, this guitar delivers the goods tonally, and the crisp, clear voice of the instrument when strummed acoustically translates well through the pickup pair. Of course one of the most fun sounds on the Mustang is the out-of-phase setting, engaged when both on/off/on pickup selector switches are at their innermost or outermost points. The quack and spank of that particular setting is unique to the Mustang, and there's plenty of tonal range between the two pickups, with meatier sounds when the neck pickup is singled out. Featherweight at 6lbs 6oz, this Mustang has been professionally setup here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar with 11-49 strings, low action, and spot-on intonation.

The maple neck has a medium U-shaped profile carve with full shoulders and lightly rolled fretboard edges, measuring .865” deep at the 1st fret and .925” at the 12th. The rosewood fretboard has a vintage-spec 7 1/4“ radius, and the slender fretwire only exhibits a touch of wear beneath the plain strings on the crowns of frets 1-6. This guitar plays cleanly up the 24” scale with a straight neck and a responsive, optimally-adjusted truss rod, and the bone nut measures 1 9/16" in width. The headstock sports a block logo, and the Kluson-style tuning machines turn smoothly and hold accurate pitch.

All of the electronics function as intended, with Master Volume and Tone controls governing the two pickups, as well as the Mustang’s distinctive On/Off/On pickup switches. The chrome-plated hardware shines like new, including the control plate and vibrato, which actuates easily and bounces quickly back to pitch, complete with the original black-tipped arm. Plastics comprise the pair of knobs and the four-ply white pearloid pickguard.

The custom color Sapphire Blue Trans gloss finish highlights the subtle grain in the body, with cosmetic wear limited to just a scant few tiny nicks and faint finish scratches on the body as a whole. The smooth ambered gloss on the neck profile is immaculate.

The original Fender-branded gigbag is included, along with all the hangtags.

***We are dealers for the Mastery M2 bridge and Lollar pickups, either of which can be installed prior to shipment for an additional charge***
