Up for sale, a 2017 Fender Japan Exclusive Classic 70s Telecaster Custom in near-mint, 100% original condition and in perfect working order, complete with the original gigbag and hangtags. As the briefly used model name purports, this “Made in Japan” Telecaster was exclusive to the Japanese domestic market, and not only that, the Surf Green gloss finish was only offered through Fender Japan's direct-to-customer online store in limited quantities.

Between the Wide Range humbucker in the neck position and the single coil at the bridge, this Tele has a very wide tonal spectrum, from thick, meaty humbucker tones in the neck position to chiming, twangy single coil sounds at the bridge. The middle position is a "best of both worlds setting," and the two pickups balance well both in terms of output and their respective tonal attributes. This Tele weighs 7lbs 12oz, professionally setup here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar with 10-46 string, low action, and accurate intonation.

The one-piece maple neck has a very chunky U-shaped profile carve with generous, inviting shoulders and lightly rolled fretboard edges, measuring .895” deep at the 1st fret and .940” at the 12th. The fretboard sports a vintage-spec 7 1/4“ radius, and the slender fretwire is nigh flawless, only exhibiting faint wear beneath the plain strings on the crowns of frets 1-2. This guitar plays cleanly up the 25 1/2“ scale with a straight neck and a responsive, optimally-adjusted truss rod, and the bone nut measures 1.675” (42.5mm). On the headstock, the Gotoh tuning machines turn smoothly and hold accurate pitch.

All of the electronics function as intended, with each pickup wired to independent Volume and Tone knobs, in addition to a three-way toggle pickup selector switch. The chrome-plated pickup cover (Wide Range) and “Pat. Pend” bridge base are notable clean, as are the steel barrel saddles. Plastics comprise the quartet of witch hat knobs and the three-ply pickguard, which has some requisite scuffing along the strum path.

The gloss Surf Green finish is vibrant and well-saturated, pushing into Seafoam Green territory. Cosmetic wear is limited to a handful of faint scratches and tiny dings on the body as a whole, and some finish checking at the edges of the neck pocket. The smooth gloss on the neck profile is immaculate.

The original Fender-branded gigbag is included, along with the hangtags.
