Up for sale, a 2017 Fender American Vintage '58 Precision Bass in near-mint, 100% original condition and perfect working order, complete with the original tweed hardshell case, COA, hangtags, and case candy. A model produced for only a few short years at the tail end of the (now discontinued) American Vintage series, the '58 model represented a retooling of the golden age Fender Precision platform from the ground up, coinciding with the introduction of Fender's Pure Vintage hardware and pickups, and boasting a more vintage-correct neck profile carve. The bass also features Fender's "flash coat" nitro lacquer finish, a rebranding of the Thin Skin concept in which the gloss lacquer is sprayed very thinly with no poly base coat, ensuring maximum acoustic resonance.

This bass faithfully replicates all the physical and tonal characteristics of a genuine Precision Bass from 1958, with distinct features such as the anodized gold pickguard, alder body, one-piece maple neck, and split-coil pickup with raised A string poles for better string balance. The tone is broad and clear, with pillowy thump and top end sweetness. The bass weighs 8lbs 10oz, professionally setup here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar with groundwound 45-95 strings, easy-playing and accurate intonation.

The maple neck has a medium C-shaped profile carve with round shoulders in every register and lightly rolled fretboard edges, measuring .840" deep at the 1st fret and 1.005" at the 12th. The original slender frets are flawless, and the bass plays cleanly in every register up the 34" scale with a straight neck and responsive, optimally adjusted truss rod. Conforming to traditional Fender specifications, the fretboard radius is 7 1/4" and the nut measures a full 1 3/4" in width. On the headstock, the chrome-plated clover button reverse gear tuning machines turn smoothly and hold pitch as they should. All of the expected factory stamps are present in the neck pocket, and the heel is pencil dated 7-06-17.

Electronics include Master Volume and Tone knobs governing the stock split coil black bobbin pickup with its distinctive raised A pole pieces (something only seen on Fender basses from 1957-58). The chrome hardware is positively gleaming including the knurled knobs, V-prefix neck plate, ashtray bridge and pickup covers, and bridge with threaded saddles. The gold anodized pickguard provides the dual functions of ensuring an ideal noise floor while also increasing the treble response of the bass in a small, yet appreciable way.

The gloss Sunburst nitro lacquer "flash coat" finish is exceedingly clean, with cosmetic wear limited to a few shallow marks on the upper bout on the back and a few very faint finish scratches in the clear coat of the gloss on the body as a whole. The gloss finish on the neck profile is flawless, highlighting light flame figuring extending along the bass side of the carve.

The original tweed G&G Deluxe hardshell case is included, along with the COA, and all original hangtags and case candy.
