Up for sale, a 2017 Fender American Professional Telecaster Deluxe in near-mint, 100% original condition and in perfect working order. A short run, discontinued model, this Telecaster Deluxe features the traditional tonewood complement comprising an ash body, maple neck and thick slab 22 fret rosewood fingerboard, ensuring a balanced, articulate platform with both authoritative note attack and midrange warmth, qualities channeled through the pair of Shawbucker humbuckers.
Unlike the oversized Wide Range humbuckers utilized in the original Tele Deluxe from the '70s, this American Professional model features "normal" humbucker-sized Shawbuckers, each with a Fender-embossed cover. Designed by pickup guru Tim Shaw (who engineered some of Gibson's most celebrated PAF reissues, now colloquially known by the "Tim Shaw" moniker), these pickups are warm-sounding and sensitive to picking dynamics with a gritty, aggressive quality when pushed. Each selection on the three-way pickup switch is distinct, and the onboard treble bleed circuit ensures ideal treble response and clarity when rolling down each humbucker's respective Volume knob. This Telecaster Deluxe weighs 7lbs 11oz, professionally setup here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar with spot-on intonation, 10-46 strings and slinky action.
The neck has a "Deep C" profile carve with nicely rounded shoulders and lightly rolled fretboard edges, measuring .850" deep at the 1st fret and .930" at the 12th. The thick slab rosewood fingerboard has a modern 9 1/2" radius, retaining the factory medium jumbo frets which are nigh flawless. Notes ring out clearly up the 25 1/2" scale, and the neck is straight with a responsive, optimally adjusted truss rod. The nut measures a full 1 11/16" in width, and the headstock is fitted with Schaller-made and Fender-branded chrome tuning machines which turn smoothly.
All of the electronics function as intended, with dedicated Volume and Tone knobs for each Shawbucker, topped with black witch hat knobs. The nickel-plated hardware is gleaming, including the six-saddle bridge. A three-ply black pickguard rounds things out, with just a few faint pick scuffs on the treble side of the guard. The Sunburst gloss finish highlights the prominent grain of the ash body, and cosmetic wear is limited to just a few exceedingly faint finish scratches in the clear coat on the back, while the satin-finished neck profile is flawless.
The original heavy-duty molded Fender hardshell case is included.
