Up for sale, a 2017 Fender Aerodyne Jazz Bass model AJB in excellent, 100% original condition and in perfect working order. A “Made in Japan” exclusive model uncommon outside its country of origin, this Aerodyne bass is unique both visually and sonically, combining a PJ pickup configuration and bound, contoured body with the sleek looks and comfortable 1 1/2“ nut width of the Jazz Bass.
Tonewoods include a basswood body, maple neck, and slab rosewood fretboard, yielding a warm, balanced acoustic profile. The pickups offer both the ample thump and heft of a split coil Precision neck pickup and the midrange cut and articulation of a Jazz pickup at the bridge. This Aerodyne Jazz Bass weighs 8lbs 15oz, professionally setup here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar with 45-100 roundwound strings, comfortable action, and spot-on intonation.
The maple neck has a fairly slender U-shaped profile carve at the nut with full shoulders and additional heft in the upper registers, measuring .820” deep at the 1st fret and .975” at the 12th. The slab rosewood fretboard has a 7 1/4“ radius and lightly rolled edges, and the slender fretwire is practically perfect. The bass plays cleanly up the 34” scale with a straight neck and a responsive, optimally-adjusted truss rod. The nut measures 1 1/2“ in width, carved from bone for optimal clarity and sustain. On the matching headstock, the clover-button tuners turn smoothly and hold accurate pitch, with clean nickel plating, and there’s a tiny nick on the bass-side headstock face. The “Made in Japan” text and JD17-prefix serial are present above the four-bolt neck plate.
All of the electronics work as intended, with individual Volume knobs for each pickup and a Master Tone control. The chrome-plated hardware includes the bridge, control plate, and Strat-style knobs, all of which are bright and clean. The gloss Black finish is framed on top by cream binding, and cosmetic wear is limited to just a handful of minor dings and faint scratches on the body as a whole. The neck profile retains its smooth satin finish, with a couple shallow nicks behind frets 1-2 that have no impact on playability.
A Bacchus-brand padded gigbag is included.
