Up for sale, a 2017 Dave Bunker Custom Shop "David Lawrence" model in exceptional condition and in perfect working order, complete with the original hardshell case and COA. Famous for his doubleneck "Touch Guitars" of the 1960s and the two hand tapping method by which they were played; the late, great Dave Bunker was a pioneer in the world of electric guitar luthiery. With body dimensions and top carve reminiscent of a Paul Reed Smith, this DL model sports an eye-catching "Red-Maroon and Black Swirl" finish.

Over a number of decades, the Bunker Custom Shop developed an enviable reputation for crafting top-tier boutique instruments featuring hand-selected premium tonewoods and Bunker’s proprietary, innovative designs, including the Sustanium Tension Free Neck. The Sustanium neck is unique, with a long tenon bolt-on design, transferring the string tension to the body as opposed to the neck to prevent unwanted bowing, optimizing action while also increasing sustain and resonance.

The pickup pair comprises Seymour Duncan SH-4 JB and Artec HB115 humbuckers. Seymour Duncan's original hot-rodded humbucker, the SH-4 in the neck position has full, powerful low end, crisp and detailed highs, and an upper-midrange bump that adds crunch and chunk to heavy chords and translates to a singing, vocal-like quality for lead work. The bridge pickup is an Artec HB115 humbucker, commonly seen in B.C. Rich and Ibanez guitars, warm and round with ample percussive cut and bell-like trebles. Each humbucker also has its own dedicated push/pull coil taps, enabling single coil cut and sparkle. Featherweight at just 6lbs 13oz with a chambered body, this Bunker has been professionally setup here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar with 11-49 strings, slinky action, and spot-on intonation.

The flame maple neck has a slender C-shaped profile carve with rounded shoulders and faintly rolled fretboard edges, measuring .795” deep at the 1st fret and .935” at the 12th. The dark slab 24 fret rosewood fretboard has a compound 10-16” radius, dot inlay, and pristine medium jumbo fretwire. This guitar plays cleanly up the 25” scale with a straight neck and a responsive, optimally-adjusted truss rod. There are adjustment points at both ends of the neck to dial in relief, although the Sustanium Tension Free Neck is designed to minimize future neck adjustments. The compensated nut measures a full 1 11/6” in width. On the headstock, the gold-plated tuners turn smoothly and hold pitch as they should.

All of the electronics function as intended, with the humbuckers governed by independent pairs of Volume and Tone controls, a three-way pickup selector mini toggle, and push/pull coil splits for each humbucker on the Tone pots. The gold-plated hardware includes dome-topped knurled knobs, a Tune-o-matic bridge and stopbar, and a pair of pickup surrounds.

The unique "Red-Maroon and Black Swirl" finish is notably well-kept, with cosmetic wear limited to a handful of faint finish scratches in the clear coat on the body as a whole. The smooth satin finish on the neck profile is pristine and highlights the tight, wall-to-wall flame figuring in the maple.

The original hardshell case is included, along with the original warranty and COA, signed by Dave Bunker.
