Up for sale, a 2016 Koll Duo Glide electric guitar in exceptional, 100% original condition and in perfect working order, complete with the original hardshell case and various Koll ephemera. Koll guitars are handcrafted in Portland, Oregon, by master luthier Saul Koll and his team, utilizing only FSC-certified sustainably harvested woods with locally sourced Oregon big leaf maple for their tops. Saul developed the now-iconic Glide body shape over 25 years ago, which has endured as the primary platform for Koll designs.
This Duo Glide takes obvious design cues from the Gretsch Duo Jet with a distinct Koll touch, featuring a flat maple top finished with a red sparkle nitro lacquer, a chambered mahogany body, one-piece mahogany neck, and bound slab ebony fretboard. Premium hardware includes a Mastery M1 bridge, Bigsby B5 vibrato, and Chet-style aluminum arm machined by TK Smith. The guitar is fitted with a pair of ShakyTone P90 pickups that mimic the DeArmond Dynasonic design, offering a well-balanced response with bold lows and sparkly highs, naturally beefier at the neck position and more focused and percussive at the bridge. The guitar is lightweight at 7lbs 12oz, professionally setup here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar with optimal intonation, low action, and 10-46 roundwound strings.
The one-piece mahogany neck has a full C-shaped profile carve, measuring .860” deep at the 1st fret and .960” at the 12th. The bound slab ebony fretboard features pearl inlay along the bass side with a custom rooster at the 12th fret, and the stock slender fretwire is pristine. The fretboard has a compound 10”-14” radius, and the guitar plays cleanly in every register up the straight neck with an optimally adjusted truss rod. The nut measures 1 11/16" in width, carved from unbleached bone. The headstock features a bound ebony veneer with pearl Koll inlay, and the stock set of Kluson-style tuners turn smoothly and hold pitch well.
On the body, the electronics comprise a three-way pickup selector toggle and Master Volume and Tone controls for the pair of ShakyTone pickups. The harness features a paper-in-oil tone cap and CTS pots topped with translucent knobs. The guitar features a nitro lacquer red sparkle top and warm sunburst-finished back and neck. The gold pickguard shows faint wear at the treble side of the pick path, and cosmetic wear on the finish is limited to a few faint marks on the back of the instrument and along the back body edge.
The original tweed hardshell case is included, with a few minor scuffs on the exterior and black leather ends. Included Koll ephemera includes a Koll polish cloth, picks, and stickers.
