Up for sale, a 2016 Gibson SG Special 70's Tribute in showroom-clean condition and in perfect working order, complete with the original Gibson-branded padded gigbag and all factory paperwork. Featuring a mahogany body, maple neck, thick slab rosewood fretboard with small block inlay, and pair of mini humbuckers, this '70s Tribute is a fairly uncommon, discontinued model. A redesign of Gibson's original mini hum platform, these "Dual Blade Alnico" mini humbuckers feature steel blades and a single Alnico V magnet ensure a very smooth response especially with broad note bends. The pickups offer the treble chime and snap of alnico magnets while also channeling the warmth of the humbucker design and mahogany body construction. Lightweight at 7lbs 2oz, this SG Special has been professionally setup here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar with 10-46 strings, low action, and accurate intonation.
The mahogany neck has what Gibson describes as a "Thin-to-Thick" profile carve, very faithful to Gibson's neck shapes from very early in the '70s. This C-shaped neck has good shoulder in every register, slender and fast-feeling for effortless chording at the nut, and offering plenty of meat for soloing up the neck. The profile measures .790” deep at the 1st fret and .955” at the 12th. The thick slab rosewood fretboard is a notable improvement over the baked maple fingerboards used on this model in previous years of production, featuring small block inlay and pristine stock medium frets. The guitar plays effortlessly in every register up the 24 3/4" scale with a straight neck with an ideally adjusted, responsive truss rod. The PLEK-cut Corian nut measures a full 1 11/16" in width. The headstock features vintage-style TonePros 16:1 ratio tuners have Gibson Deluxe-embossed gear housings with greened keystone buttons, turning smoothly and holding pitch well.
On the body, the electronics work as they should with the standard three-way toggle pickup selector and individual Volume and Tone controls for each mini humbucker. The cream plastic parts and gold reflector cap knobs are clean as can be, and the pristine chrome-plated hardware includes a Nashville bridge and corresponding stopbar. There's barely a scratch on the Satin Ebony nitro lacquer finish.
The original Gibson padded gigbag is included, along with all of the original factory paperwork.
